    Jun 26 2024

    Send us a Text Message.

In this episode I talk with Dave Wiltshire who is a well known fly tyer and angler who has written numerous articles for Fly Fishing and Tying magazine.

We cover a vast range of topics looking at how fishing fits into his life and how he has changed how he approaches fly tying.

We deep dive into what fishing means to him and uncover some interesting ideas on the subject.

For both of us, sharing information and knowledge is important and we discuss how that translates into fishing too.

He tells me about his first visit to the BFFI as a tyer and how he ended up doing an unplanned demo ahead of Oliver Edwards!

As ever, we cover a lot of ground that looks beyond fishing.

Free to download, I hope you enjoy this episode.

  • Howard Thresher - A River and a Tackle Shop
    Jun 19 2024

    Send us a Text Message.

I caught up with Howard Thresher at the tackle shop he runs in Crediton, Devon.

I've known him quite a few years now and I really wanted listeners to hear the story of a river that was completely fished out until he was lucky enough to buy the fishing rights and nurse it back to health. It now holds some pretty special fish.

We also get an intimate insight into how he runs a tackle shop, known locally as the sweet shop, a little differently from the norm.

You'll learn how he stumbled into the industry almost by accident but used his skills in other areas to make the business a success.

I really enjoyed talking with Howard and hope you'll enjoy our conversation just as much.

I got talking with Damian at a recent Fly Culture event.

His story is a really interesting one that saw him leave the streams of the Peak District when work took him to Bozeman Montana.

We discuss how he coped with the challenge of moving to a new country, settling in and of course the fishing that he discovered while there.

An engineer by trade we look at the net he has developed that is perfect for the catch and release angler.

Damian also shares some great fishing techniques along with his approach to approaching feeding trout.

In this episode of the podcast, I talk with Paul Cañada, a writer and journalist who is passionate about fly fishing.

We discuss Paul's experience fishing in Gunnison, Colorado, and his favourite streams in the area.

Paul shares his preference for dry fly fishing and his love for brown trout. He also talks about his fishing style, including his preference for solitude and his rule of catching only two fish before going home.

We touch on Paul's experience fishing in saltwater, particularly for redfish.

Paul also talks about his career as a journalist and how writing has changed over the years. He discusses his book, The Promise, which is a reflection on his life and his deep connection to Colorado. Paul reads a section from the book and shares his plans for future writing projects.

    May 22 2024

    Send us a Text Message.

    This is an interesting interview.

Paul came into fly fishing via carp, pike and then bass with conventional tackle rather than usual route and headed straight to the coast with a fly rod and discuss whether lure anglers may be the way to get more people to try a fly rod.

We also talk about his first fly rod purchase after being sold a 12wt rod and 5wt line!

Paul spends his time fishing and guiding along the south coast and I learn about him as a person, get some bass fishing info along with plenty of tips.

  • In Search of Spring Salmon
    May 15 2024

    Send us a Text Message.

I'm sure you'd do the same when you get the chance to fish for 2 days on a remote salmon river.

I made the long journey from the bottom of the country to the top with my flies packed and fingers crossed.

The podcast, recorded on the river, with no retakes on edits is as exactly as it happens and turns out to be about more than just fishing.

Speaking with my friends Lana, Colin and Marcus we look at how our lives revolve around fishing, the journey it has taken us on and the affect it has on us on many levels.

It doesn't matter if you don't salmon fish, you'll be joining fishing friends on the river for their search for a salmon.

    Do we get lucky?

    Tune in and find out!

    May 8 2024

    Send us a Text Message.

I catch up with my friend Paul Procter to talk about the frustrating season we've experienced so far.

We look at a wide range of subjects that cover fishing, his guiding, fly tying, how quickly the fishing seasons now pass and how to make sure we're fit and agile along with us both having partners who fish.

Although Paul has been a guest on the podcast before the conversation moves in some interesting directions and as well as fishing advice you'll get to know Paul a little better.
