2024 is half over, and we're here to tell you about good music that came out this year.

First, we look at the stellar sophomore album from Sierra Ferrell. An artist who is dominating the world of folk-country-Americana and for good reason. Her voice and style are unmatched, and she delivers an album of foot stompers, sweet tales of love, and devastating tales of heartbreak and murder.

Then, we get into Mach-Hommy. An artist who is truly carving out a unique path by challenging the norms of the business side of music. His 2024 album demonstrates his power and craft. We'll talk about the production, features, and the general things about his career that impress us.

A continuation of our discussion on Conway Twitty and Eminem, on this episode we will be highlighting good songs from the two artists we talked about last week.

Julius's daunting prompt for this episode was to find an album with one good song. This week on the Good Music Show, we discuss mostly bad music. And feel free to make your guesses now, we won't reveal the 1 good song right away! Just don't click the links below if you don't want it spoiled!

First, Julius's pick is Eminem's "Recovery," an album they heard when it first came out and marked a downward spiral for Eminem's career. We'll break down Eminem's place in American music culture, and what turns us off from his music, as well as what works.

Then, Danny provided an album from Conway Twitty's later years that doesn't hold a candle to his best work. A project that is overall meandering and lacks the confidence and swagger that won the hearts of a lot of women in the 70's.

It is easy to take for granted having access to almost all recorded music in existence. But having a collection of physical copies of your favorite music makes you realize how special it is. So today we are featuring two albums from each of our collections.

First up, Sidelong by Sarah Shook & the Disarmers. This debut album immediately grabbed Danny's attention upon hearing it, and he has been following bandleader River Shook through lineup changes and side projects ever since. Check it out if you want catchy, well-written, outlaw country style bangers and ballads.

Then we'll talk Mitski, who similarly has had a very consistent output. Her 4th studio album has one of her most iconic songs, but we'll talk about how all of her albums have at least one standout pop banger for the ages. This one is full of Pixies-esque loud-quiet-loud rock tunes, mixed with some art-rock / electronic influences. Plus, emotional lyrics that could just as easily be found in a book of poetry.

Continuing our side-by-side discussion of Atlanta rap giants Future and Young Thug, today we are focusing on what they bring to the table when they are featured on other artists' songs.

DRAM, Playboi Carti, Drake, Rihanna, and Travis Scott are just a handful from a long list of artists who know that adding Young Thug and/or Future to a track is a cheat code for a great song. Today we will take a look at two contemporaries in the rap world: Future and Young Thug. These two guys from Atlanta are prolific rappers in their own right, but they are also friends and collaborators. On this episode we will look at their contributions to hip-hop and what makes each of them special through the lens of six songs by each artist. Danny brought 6 Thugger songs, and Julius brought 6 Future Songs.

We'll talk about how they quickly developed their own styles separating them from their early influences, how they use emotion to drive their most powerful songs, and generally nerd out over some of our favorite lines from each.
