  • 161: How Florals Elevate Your Designs with Michael O’Neil of Designs by Nourish
    May 7 2024

Florals add so much to any room, especially when used intentionally to reflect the themes and branding of a space. To really take your designs to the next level, you can partner with a floral designer to help you translate your big vision as a designer into a work of living art!

Michael O’Neil of Designs by Nourish explains why and how designers can enhance their spaces with floral design, walking us through his own process of working with interior designers. He also shares with us his inspiring journey to creating a business he loves and how he hopes to partner with more designers in the future.

Whether you’re designing a space for a business or a home, this episode will inspire you to explore the role that florals can play. (And you’ll definitely want to consider incorporating them into photoshoots of your designs, too!)

Michael will be leading an in-person Floral Alchemy workshop with the Design Coven on May 17. Grab your ticket here.

    About Michael

Michael is a firm believer that there are no true “new beginnings.” Life is a journey where we are continually learning, evolving, growing and accumulating experiences in pursuit of a life that we think is meaningful and that we love living.

Michael has come to believe this because he opened a floral design studio, nourish, in 2023 that is the culmination of many seemingly unrelated experiences. The truth is everything Michael has experienced in the past could have led him to a thousand different points, but he consciously evolved into a floral designer because he loves design, he loves flowers and nature, and he loves telling stories, and all of those things are part of his collective experience.

Michael’s professional background is in product design and brand management—building products and communicating their unique attributes to customers. Over the years, he has studied Interior Space Planning, Ornamental Horticulture, Landscape Design and Floral Design. All very distinct disciplines that share common building blocks — a defined design process, principles and elements of design, color theory.

He launched nourish with the idea that florals intentionally designed to communicate the unique attributes of a carefully curated space could be an untapped resource for interior designers and businesses looking to make a strong visual impact with clients and guests. Florals do not need to be avoided or thrown in as an afterthought. They can be an integral layer in the design process to maintain a fresh and ever evolving presence in the space.

  • 159: Artist Spotlight: Parker Heath
    Apr 23 2024

Many artists and designers struggle with how to do what they love and make a living at it. For those of you who want to start your own businesses, this month’s Artist Spotlight with Interdisciplinary Artist & Designer Parker Heath will inspire you to get going today! Parker shares the fascinating story of how he discovered his passion for art and how he built his business in a relatively short amount of time. His secret? Just jumping in, building a solid foundation for himself, and going with the flow!

Parker and I also talk about his current work, collaborations, and process in working with interior designers. For those of you looking to collaborate more with local artists and include truly unique pieces in your designs, you’ll enjoy hearing about Parker’s work and the inspiring story behind the artist.

    About Parker

Parker Heath is a San Diego based interdisciplinary artist creating work in a variety of media such as painting, ceramics, textiles, and home accessories.

Parker received his Studio Arts BFA in 2022 from San Diego State University. The width of his multi-media work symbiotically allows him to discover and examine how the roles of functionality, materiality, and conformity co-exist with art in contemporary life.

Amongst these different practices, Parker has developed his signature artistic approach of which his final pieces embody modern aesthetics while invoking a bohemian, primitive style.

Aside from Parker’s work as an artist and small business owner, he is also a professional Freestyle BMX rider, Model, & Actor.
