Mayor Steven Reed is the New President of the African American Mayors Association; Mayor of Montgomery, AL. The African American Mayors Association (AAMA) represents over 500 mayors across the country.

Reed currently serves as the organization’s vice president and will helm it through early 2025. Hoping you might be interested in an interview with Mayor Reed on Monday or early next week.

Reed takes the helm at a time when Black mayors across the country govern four of the largest cities in the country (New York, LA, Chicago, and Philadelphia), but many face attacks from several state legislatures on their ability to govern their cities, as well as an assault on diversity and equity from activists in the courts all the way up to the Supreme Court.

Reed has been Montgomery’s mayor for the past five years and he is the first African American to hold the position. He is the only mayor in Alabama to serve on the board of trustees for the U.S. Council of Mayors. He previously served as Montgomery County, Alabama’s first African American and youngest elected probate judge.
