Hello! Welcome to our channel, The Man in the Arena Podcast. In this video, our host will explain why our channel exists and what we wish to communicate through this medium. In short, here at The Man in the Arena Podcast, we believe that modern historians have spent far too much time editorializing, and not enough time reflecting on the great deeds done by individuals considering their circumstances and period in time.
We believe Theodore Roosevelt summed up best in his Man in the Arena line from his speech at the Sorbonne in Paris (from which the podcast got its name):
"It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat."
Lastly, but most importantly, the folks here at ‘The Man in the Arena’ podcast and Appeal to Heaven Productions are Christians and we are unashamed about that fact. We do aim to show in our academics where we find the hand of God present. It is the belief of myself and the production crew that God does exist and that we can find His touch in every facet of academics.
