  • How to Fix Forward Head Posture MBC#62 Aaron Alexander
    Jun 10 2024

If you suffer from headaches, neck, or back pain, then forward head posture may be the culprit.

One of the main questions I often get asked in the dental clinic is how to fix forward head posture.

It’s important to note that mouth breathing is often the root cause of forward head posture. The body and skeletal system moves muscles and supporting structures to accommodate breathing patterns.

When our head posture or jaws are in the incorrect position, an open mouth is often a compensation in order to allow mouth breathing as a survival mechanism.

Over time forward head posture puts pressure in the back of the skull, neck, and jaw. Symptoms can include:

    • Headaches
    • Neck pain
    • Jaw pain
    • Jaw clicking
    • Shoulder pain
    • Chest pain
    • Dental decay
    • Gum disease
    • Voice issues
    • Tingling or numbness in hands
    • Snoring
    • Teeth grinding
    • Difficulty to sleep

Many patients we see in the dental clinic suffer from forward head posture due to mouth breathing habits. As we assess their jaw structure, we see that there are many movement based patterns that can help fix forward head posture.

Today my guest is Aaron Alexander, who is the author of the Align Method and host of the Align podcast.

Aaron has worked with some of world’s greatest professional athletes, performers, celebrities, and everyone in between, to relieve pain while creating greater strength, flexibility, and ease in their mind and body.

  • Carnivore Diet Plan For Weight Loss & Dental Health #MBC 61 w/ Dr. Kevin Stock
    Jun 2 2024

Can a carnivore diet plan help you lose weight or even improve your teeth?

Meat-based diet plans are growing in popularity to reverse obesity, but also type-II diabetes and even conditions like auto-immunity.

So if you’re looking to start with a carnivore diet plan, where do you get started?

Firstly it’s important to understand how a carnivore diet will affect your whole body, and the best place to start is your mouth.

Anthropological evidence shows that the ancestral human diet is based on animal foods. Studies show that the human jaw grows sufficiently to fit wisdom teeth and prevent crooked teeth.

It also shows that dental decay and gum disease did not exist in humans who ate a carnivore style diet with animal foods.

While humans are omnivores, it’s an interesting exploration to see how carnivore diet plans directly affect teeth. We know that most dental disease are caused by the overconsumption of sugar, refined flours, and carbohydrates that drive disease causing bacteria.

Today my guest is the carnivore dentist, Dr. Kevin Stock. Dr. Stock is a practicing dentist who has used a carnivore diet for his own performance and exercise based goals as well as the benefits exposed to his patients.

Dr Stock’s driving compass is to optimizing health and fitness, Early in his career he was drawn to a niche area of dentistry called Dental Sleep Medicine (DSM).

After graduating dental school, he opened a practice strictly dedicated to treating Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) and helping people sleep better by breathing better.

He is currently developing a comfortable, convenient, cost-effective solution for sleep disordered breathing. This led to years of research, development, and testing that resulted in the NED Device, a patented nasal device to treat snoring.

Throughout his career he has used the history of human dietary consumption and helps his patients to use a carnivore diet plan for better dental health.

  • What is a TMJ Headache & Causes of Jaw Pain #MBC60 Dr. Joe Damiani
    May 26 2024

If you experience headaches and migraines then it’s common to also experience jaw pain. A TMJ headache is a type of headache that radiates from the temporomandibular joint. However conditions like jaw pain and temporomandibular dysfunction or TMD can cause chronic head and neck pain that present in headaches.

So does jaw pain cause headaches or is it the other way around?

If you suffer from headaches and migraines, it can be debilitating and answers can be hard to pinpoint. Some people experience more vague symptoms like brain-fog or lack of energy.

Symptoms of TMJ and jaw pain include:

    • Pain or tenderness on the right or left side of the jaw
    • Pain in the left or right of the temporomandibular joints
    • Aching pain in and around your ear
    • Dizziness
    • Brain-fog
    • Lack of energy
    • Teeth grinding
    • Difficulty chewing or pain while chewing
    • Aching facial pain to one side or both
    • Neck pain and stiffness
    • A click on opening the jaw on the right, left or both sides.
    • Locking of the joint, making it difficult to open or close your mouth
    • TMJ Headaches or migraines

Each of these symptoms may present together or separately and they can be serious.

In the dental clinic we see patients that have experienced TMJ headaches for years. While the solutions can be hard to find, getting a better grasp on the jaw and TMJ system is extremely helpful.

My guest on the podcast in this episode is Dr. Joe Damiani a physiotherapist PT, DPT has worked with over 1000 patients experiencing persistent TMJ disorder, Headaches & Neck Pain.

His rehab clinic is situated in Wyckoff, NJ where he provides one-on-one care.

Dr. Joe's philosophy is twofold: firstly, he places significant emphasis on patient education, enabling them to comprehend the mechanisms and rationale behind their injuries. Secondly, he empowers patients with self-treatment strategies and the tools necessary to address their issues independently, rather than relying on passive therapies that only offer temporary relief, perpetuating a cycle of discomfort and recurrence.

You can follow Dr. Joe Damiani on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/drjoedamiani/

Additionally, he has created an online program which allows individuals suffering, to utilize his signature process from home.

    Apr 19 2024

Are you or a loved one struggling with snoring or grinding your teeth while asleep? These symptoms could indicate an issue with your airway function linked to your jaw. The relationship between sleep apnea and sleep bruxism (teeth grinding) isn't clear yet, with various studies unable to conclude whether they are connected or occur independently.

Ever considered how your oral health might be indicative of something much bigger? Serious conditions such as heart disease, auto-immune disorders, and even Alzheimer's Dementia may have deeper roots than traditionally recognized - roots that might lie in your oral health.

Functional dentistry delves into these connections, probing the root causes of oral diseases. It's not just about your teeth; it's about the community of bacteria dwelling in your mouth, known as the oral microbiome. Over the decades, a wealth of evidence has identified imbalances in this bacterial landscape as a potential risk factor for severe, life-altering diseases.

Wouldn't it be empowering if a simple microbiome test could unveil these risks? Along the frontier of health technology, renowned microbiome labs are making this a reality. Conducting gut microbiome testing - an intimate look at the state of your bacterial environment - has become an accessible, powerful diagnostic tool within a functional healthcare setting.

Demonstrating this value is Dr. Victoria Samson, a devoted functional dentist based in London. She harnesses the power of these tests to understand your health risks better and provide personalized, proactive care.

What's more, all this might let you address one of the most common oral diseases - gum disease - without solely relying on a dentist. Self-care practices, guided by accurate microbiome testing, can be a transformative approach to improving both your oral health and systemic well-being.

This innovative perspective underscores the importance of understanding our microbiomes and their profound impacts on our health.
