It's time for a brand new Ask a Move Abroad Coach episode!

In today's bonus session, we dive deep into a coaching call with my incredible Freedom Life coaching client, Cynthia Martinez. Cynthia is on a journey to build her consulting business while overcoming burnout and maintaining her enthusiasm, and I'm here to coach her through the challenges she faces along the way.

Cynthia's story is one of resilience and determination. She transitioned from a corporate position to entrepreneurship after unexpectedly losing her job. This leap of faith opened doors she never imagined possible but also involves the challenges of meeting financial requirements for a digital nomad visa and escaping the high cost of living in the US.

In this episode, Cynthia and I tackle some of the biggest hurdles she faces, like navigating burnout, conquering imposter syndrome, and finding ways to build a steady pipeline of clients. We'll discuss strategies for managing finances and building a thriving business without hustling ourselves into the ground. We’ll also explore how to handle the fear of taking on too much work, the importance of setting boundaries, and prioritizing self-care.

So, grab your notepad, and join us for this coaching session packed with practical advice and inspiration!

    -------

Today, I'm diving deep into the world of digital nomad programs, with a special focus on the most popular one, Remote Year.

The reason why I need to share this with you is that it's so important to be fully aware of what you're signing up for, including the financial costs and the lack of control over crucial aspects like destinations, accommodations, and coworking spaces.

I'll also share some eye-opening stories from participants facing challenges like sexual harassment, racism, and a lack of support from these programs.

My goal is to stress the importance of feeling confident and empowered to plan your own adventure and make your own decisions when moving abroad.

And guess what? If you're ready to take charge of your move abroad journey, I've got just the thing for you. Join my Move Abroad Escape Plan Bootcamp for personalized guidance and support to help you every step of the way.

Let's get you living your dream life abroad!

Now, let’s dive into today's topic. We’re busting the myth of waiting for the perfect time to move abroad. Spoiler alert: it doesn't exist.

If you’ve been holding off, thinking that a magical, perfect moment will come, it's time to rethink. We'll dive into how waiting for perfection is a form of self-sabotage and why you should take action now.

I’ll also chat about common excuses people use to delay their move, like busy work seasons, important life events, lease agreements, and selling a house. Plus, I'll share strategies to overcome these hurdles.

It's time to take some major accountability and start even when things aren't perfect.

    Jul 2 2024

Let's clear up a big misconception—not everyone who moves abroad hates their home country. You can absolutely love your country, be frustrated by it, and still want to fix the things you don’t like. And guess what? You can do all that while living overseas.

In this episode, we’ll explore the concept of running towards something you desire, instead of just running away from what you don’t. It’s all about focusing on what you want in life and designing your dream lifestyle abroad. Plus, I’ll address that common line, "If you don’t like it, leave," and explain why critiquing your country is actually a form of patriotism and a push for change.

Living abroad doesn’t mean abandoning your roots. You can still be politically active and advocate for change from anywhere in the world. We'll also touch on the privileges and opportunities that come with being from the US, and how these can coexist with your desire to experience life abroad.

Tune in to hear more about how you can love your home country, live abroad, and advocate for change all at the same time. Let’s get into it!

  • #63 From Grocery Store Scare to Global Safety: My Eye-Opening Return to the US
    Jun 25 2024

Trigger Warning: gun violence, mass shootings, kidnapping, and trafficking.

In this episode, I dive deep into a pretty scary experience I had at a grocery store on my most recent visit to the US and use it as a springboard to talk about the bigger issue of gun violence and safety here compared to living abroad. It's a heavy topic, but one that's so important, especially given how often mass shootings and gun-related incidents seem to happen in the US.

I share more personal stories of feeling unsafe in the US and contrast that with my experiences in other countries where safety isn’t such a major concern. From the stark differences in everyday safety and vigilance to the challenges of dealing with culture shock and reverse culture shock, we cover a lot of ground.

Plus, I chat about everything from how the food here affects my body, to work culture and political tensions in the USA and compare it to my experience living overseas.

    Jun 18 2024

In this episode, we're diving deep into the power of choice and taking ownership of our decisions.

I'll share personal stories about how I once felt stuck and envious of others living their dreams while I was tied down by a job I didn't love and student loans. But then I realized I had the power to choose a different path.

While we can't control everything that happens to us, we can control our reactions and how we show up in tough situations. I'm here to encourage you to own your choices and make empowered decisions to create the life you truly want.
