Our goal is to foster understanding and create a community that values neurodiversity and supports the rights and dignity of all individuals.Thank you for being a part of our journey towards creating a more inclusive and affirming world for neurodivergent families and beyond.---Promoting human rights is essential for neurodiversity advocates for several reasons:Inclusivity and Respect: Human rights are based on the principle that every individual is entitled to fundamental rights and freedoms, regardless of their background, abilities, or neurodiversity. By advocating for human rights, neurodiversity advocates promote inclusivity and respect for all, ensuring that no one is discriminated against or excluded based on their neurological differences.Equal Opportunities: Human rights ensure that everyone has equal opportunities and access to education, employment, healthcare, and other essential aspects of life. Neurodiversity advocates strive to create a world where neurodivergent individuals have the same chances as their neurotypical peers to succeed and thrive in all areas of life.Autonomy and Self-Determination: Human rights empower individuals to make decisions about their own lives, including their healthcare, education, and living arrangements. For neurodivergent individuals, the ability to exercise autonomy is critical, as it allows them to make choices that align with their unique needs and preferences.Dignity and Acceptance:Advocating for human rights is a way of upholding the inherent dignity of all individuals. Neurodiversity advocates seek to break down stereotypes and misconceptions about neurodivergent individuals and promote acceptance, celebrating the strengths and contributions that come with neurodiversity.Protection from Discrimination: Human rights principles protect individuals from discrimination, including discrimination based on neurodiversity. This is crucial in ensuring that neurodivergent individuals have fair treatment and opportunities, whether in the workplace, educational settings, or society at large.Legal Framework: Human rights provide a legal framework to address violations and protect the rights of individuals. This framework can be used to advocate for changes in laws and policies that affect neurodivergent individuals, ensuring they receive the support and accommodations they need.Education and Awareness: By aligning with human rights principles, neurodiversity advocates help educate society about the rights of neurodivergent individuals. This increased awareness can lead to more inclusive and supportive communities, schools, and workplaces.Summary: Supporting human rights is crucial for neurodiversity advocates as it aligns with the core principles of inclusivity, equality, dignity, and respect for all individuals, regardless of their neurological differences. It ensures that neurodivergent individuals have the same opportunities and protections as anyone else, contributing to a more just and equitable world for all. What can you do?https://www.jewishvoiceforpeace.org/take-action/#act-nowhttps://freerice.com/homehttps://donate.doctorswithoutborders.org/https://www.unicefusa.org/----Remember, every human is unique, and the strategies that work best for one human may differ for another. Episode 4: Structured Literacy | Reading Specialist: Elisabeth Forde M.Ed. | @dearreadingteacher

Structured literacy is an evidence-based approach to teaching reading and writing that breaks down language into its smallest components. This method focuses on phonology, phonics, syntax, semantics, and morphology – all essential elements for strong reading and writing skills.

For this special episode we are not alone! I was a guest on her podcast and now she's doing me a huge favor by joining me on episode 4!

Who is she? I'm proud to call her my instagram friend, Elizabeth Forde M.Ed.

  • BONUS! October - Dyslexia Awareness Month
    Oct 1 2023
BONUS EPISODE! : October - Dyslexia Awareness Month

This episode is about the reflection of a year ago that the host, The Neuroaffirming Parent, got FREE dyslexia training resources from Nessy Learning, Cox Campus, and Made by Dyslexia! This episode is out of gratitude for these companies and organizations for raising awareness and sharing information to help dyslexic students and parents better advocate for better opportunities, accomodations, and modifications while navigating the neurotypical centric education world that still doesn't fully understand neurodiversity or the neurotype of dyslexia.

The host is apart of the 80% of adults that go their entire education career without being screened or properly identified as dyslexic. It's important for families to understand that Dyslexia is hereditary. It's important for teachers and educators to understand that in the USA 1 in 5 students are dyslexic. Internationally 1 in 10 people are dyslexic.

This is a very common, neurobiological in origin, neurotype that affects reading, which is the foundation for better communication and education for all individuals.

Please enjoy this very special BONUS episode!

    ------

This episode features a LIFE UPDATE about our education journey.

In episode 2 you heard from my husband and I how we transitoned our daughter from public school to a virtual home school

In this episode I reflect on how our parenting style has always aligned with most homeschool philosphy:

"We understand that no curriculum is perfect, and many educational opportunities
can be found outside of our home.
Every field trip, every television show, even every game you play instructs our
children something about the world around them and their place in it.
Our home education is a lifestyle and can be much more than just doing
    schoolwork at the kitchen table.
We will take the time to learn alongside our children and will find that
homeschooling, with its difficulties, is not only an excellent educational choice, it
    is relationship-building family adventure."

So as of September.. we are officially a Secular Home School family... for now.

You'll hear in later episodes my home for an ultimately Neuroinclusive Education System, but until that happens...we'll be home schooling.
