  • How an NFL Player Deals with Failure
    Jul 25 2024

Cody Hollister has two parents who’ve loved and supported him, a twin brother with whom he has an unshakeable bond—and, oh yeah, a seven-year NFL career, one that includes a Super Bowl ring won as a member of the 2018 Patriots. But even with all these blessings, Cody has faced his share of challenges, from struggling to catch on with a college team to being a child of divorce. Cody talks with Nate Dewberry this week about how he’s persevered through difficulties and setbacks, and how building community at his church has helped him find a sense of freedom from past failures.

  • The Weight We Weren't Made To Carry
    Jul 18 2024

As a former Division I college basketball player who’d been playing the game ever since he was a little kid, Doug Elks is no stranger to physical exertion or the sacrifices athletes make. Even with that in mind, though, running 100 miles wearing a weighted 20-pound vest—as Doug, an avid long-distance runner, plans to do this December—might sound extreme. But he says he’s doing it to symbolize the weight many men carry around on their souls every day, weight we were never intended to carry. And whether our suffering comes from an ultramarathon or any of the other challenges we might face in life, there’s meaning in it if we’re willing to look for it. Doug, who founded the Ambition In Mind (AIM) ministry in 2020, talks with Nate Dewberry this week about his own spiritual awakening, finding the true meaning in suffering, and how our spiritual journey can go from a trudge to a sprint if we find the right people to walk with us.

  • No Distractions
    Jun 27 2024

With all the distractions presented by the media, popular culture, and the online world, it can be hard to carve out time and space to block out the outside world and just be with God. This week’s episode of The Redeemed Man contains some worthwhile advice on how to do it—and ironically enough, it comes from someone in the entertainment industry: Tracy Campbell, a Georgia native who’s now a writer, actor, and director in southern California. Despite the widely held stereotype that the entertainment world is incompatible with a meaningful spiritual life, Tracy shares how he’s managed to stay true to himself and to God despite the temptations of both Hollywood and the single life. He also offers insightful thoughts into having patience and maintaining one’s faith even in the midst of tragedy and heartache.

  • Preaching the Gospel in a Chaotic Online World
    Jun 20 2024

This week, The Redeemed Man welcomes its first international guest: Jamie Bambrick, associate pastor of Hope Church Craigavon and YouTube content creator. Earlier this year, Bambrick created a video responding to the “He Gets Us” Super Bowl ad that attracted more than half a million views; he talks with Nate Dewberry about dealing with the pressures (both positive and negative) of sudden online fame, and what he’s learned about interacting with the chaotic and often hostile world of social media. Jamie also talks about his personal faith journey and how faith helped him and his wife through their fertility struggles, as well as the people in Jamie’s life who keep him going and the hopeful signs he sees in faith communities around the world.

  • Journey from Porn Star to Preacher
    Jun 13 2024

New to Hollywood and hungry for success, model/actor Joshua Broome agreed to do a porn film “just to put [his] toe in the water.” When word got back to his hometown, though, the shame convinced him a porn star was all he’d ever be, and he ended up appearing in more than 1,000 adult films before finally leaving the industry in 2013. But with the help of a loving wife, a good spiritual advisor, and friends willing to hold him accountable, Joshua realized he didn’t have to be defined by his past—and that God had so much more in store for his future. Today a sought-after speaker and author of 7 Lies That Will Ruin Your Life, Joshua speaks with Nate Dewberry about the bad choices and misconceptions that sent him down a dark path, as well as the lessons that helped him realize he was still worthy of God’s love. For anyone convinced that past mistakes have rendered them unworthy and unlovable, this week’s Redeemed Man podcast is a must-listen.

  • I Was in Prison, and You Came to Me
    Jun 6 2024

At just 16 years old, Jonathan Irons was tried as an adult, convicted, and sentenced to 50 years in prison—all for a burglary and assault he didn’t commit. Strengthened by his faith and a prison ministry that believed in him, he endured 22 years of incarceration before being released in 2020. Today, he and his wife, former WNBA superstar Maya Moore, run Win With Justice, a nonprofit educating the public about how the justice system works, the potential for abuses that exist—and how people can help prisoners looking for a second chance. This week Jonathan tells his stunning story to Paul Amos and Nate Dewberry, and shares his reflections on how anyone can live out Jesus’s call to help “the least of [His] people.”

  • Redemption, Second Chances, and Basketball
    May 30 2024

A year ago, podcast guest Matt Bostic shared his story of losing his grip in the wake of his mother’s death, developing a serious drinking problem, finally finding God’s redemption with the help of committed counselors—and becoming one of those counselors as program director for the Life House ministry. This week, he’s back with an update on how Life House is expanding with the help of partner ministries to bring hope and healing to even more men and women seeking a fresh start. He also talks with Nate Dewberry about how to help others without draining yourself, the joys of grandfatherhood, and how he’ll be using his love of basketball to raise support for Life House in a unique effort this fall.
