Hosted by Dr. Jordan Loewen-Colón,Vanessa Ferguson and Aakanksha Khandwaha, this podcast series engages multidisciplinary scholars across North America in discussions on the implications of AI technologies and tools, and necessary considerations prior to its deployment. These conversations are intended to ensure that AI will be useful universally and that its benefits are felt by everyone.     In this episode, we interview Os Keyes and discuss AI systems and gender considerations in computer science all amid the age of AI.

    Os is an PhD Candidate in the Department of Human-Centered Design & Engineering at the University of Washington. Os’s research focuses on understanding the role that technology plays in constructing the world, and how we might construct a better one. Os’s research spans the intersections of gender, disability, technology and power. Their current project explores the past, present and future of gender-affirming medicine and the politics of scientific efforts to demonstrate its effect on patients.     In this episode, we interview Dr. Ishtiaque Ahmed and discuss sustainable and ethical computing in the age of AI, especially for and with marginalized communities locally and globally.

    Dr. Ahmed is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science, at the University of Toronto. Dr. Ahmed’s research focuses on studying, analyzing, and designing computing technologies with marginalized populations around the world through a sustainability and social justice lens. His work spans political philosophy, critical theory, social science, anthropology, and STS literature and informs mobile and ubiquitous computing, natural language processing, social media, and machine learning.   • Indigenous Data Sovereignty and Data Justice in the Age of AI

    In this episode, we interview Dr. Robyn K. Rowe and explore what considerations must be made to ensure that AI tools and technologies are safe for Indigenous populations.

    Dr. Rowe is an First Nations (Anishinaabekwe) post-doctoral fellow at Queen’s University whose research focuses on Indigenous sovereignty, decolonization, and data in Artificial Intelligence.
