The Good News of Christianity is that where we are all born spiritually poor and homeless, God in Jesus stepped into that, and opened the way back to him to be saved from that;

to be made acceptable to God again by being given Jesus’ perfect heart, and to re-mold our own hearts more and more to be like his.

In Jesus we are freed from needing to hold on to our material riches self-destructively at the expense of others, and freed to seek God’s Kingdom-will in how he wishes us to USE that in the love and service of him and others.

Sermon for the Fourth Sunday after Trinity (June 23rd, 2024 - Proper 7, Year B)

The Good News is that:

Jesus died in your place so that you might live forever.

Not just any life, not just carrying on ‘as-is’ forever - so much more than that - life growing in perfect, selfless love with God & each other forever.

That news - that simple news - is a game-changer.

It is life, world, & universe-upending for everyone & everything.

The Good News of the Christian faith is that God gives the growth - that ‘giving it to God’ is not crossing your fingers & hoping for the best, but in Jesus is a promise that he is at-work in your heart & in the world around you for his good & holy purposes of perfect love.

The Good News of the Christian Faith is that God forgives all who come to him…and who keep coming back to him…and it is only by continually coming back to Jesus together that we can re-unite (with him and each-other) and remain united (with him and each-other).

The Good News is that Jesus only asks us to ‘put the word out there’ and let him do the rest: That Christianity is not a product to sell or have to cleverly present to people, but in lives of service to Christ lived out and shared in faith, its saving power will make itself known.
