What happened to the Town of Shorter?

What lessons can we learn from what this group of citizens did to protect their community?

I have to make a decision about staying in Shorter or moving on for the well being of my family.  

Victoryland, the dog track, opens and the newly incorporated town of Shorter, Alabama is overrun with cars, dogs, trash and noise. 

Now that Shorter is officially incorporated, the real work begins.  Big decisions have to be made, regulations put in place, zoning established etc.  For the officials of Shorter, it's all consuming.  It is democracy at work.  Things are often slow or tied up in red tape, but the people of Shorter are able to control what happens in their community.

The City of Tuskegee makes a desperate and bizarre attempt to keep the dog track in its city limits.

Shorter becomes a town and I jump into the political arena.

Plans are made to make Shorter a town.
