  • S1E3: Anya Covington
    Apr 22 2023
Marci’s guest is Anya Covington, CEO and Lead Consultant of Human2Human, LLC who acknowledges that she is ready to “strip naked” to be vulnerable and share her truth. Anya shares her unique perspective on how sport shaped her life and how she never allowed it to take control of her identity. As important of a role basketball played in her and her family’s life, it was never the defining identity. Basketball was and is just one of the many vehicles that lead to Anya’s self-discovery and self-confidence. Being raised in a supportive, disciplined, and loving home, Anya embraced her identity to lead through sport with compassion by relying on her upbringing to enforce her values, her faith in God and to lead future generations to be the best versions of themselves. Lessons learned throughout her sport journey were never easy. Bravery and resiliency is a defining theme as she talks through her life-threatening health conditions and a jaw-dropping police attack. These challenges combined with all the other setbacks athletes face while making decisions for their future. Anya has come out on top, she’s proud, she’s humble, and she leads with heart to enhance human connection from a place of wholeness.

The Stripped Naked Podcast is underway with our first guest delivering wisdom, inspiration, and motivation in a big way. Haley Daniels, an Olympian who represented Canada in the sport of Canoe Slalom in Tokyo 2020/21 and multiple national championship titles holder, is Marci’s first guest. Haley shares the highs and lows of being an athlete at the highest level ,while taking on the demands of sponsorship, fundraising, entrepreneurship and building her brand. She is also an advocate for greater gender equity opportunities within the sport amplifying the voices of LGBTQ+ individuals, all while training and navigating the demands of sport identity. Balancing the transition from elite athlete to NARP (Normal Average Regular Person) might be the trickiest challenge for her yet. Haley admits that it’s not easy managing the expectations you have for yourself with the expectations from others. She knows this is something that she is going to have to work through while seizing every opportunity in her path. For now, Haley continues to arm herself with educational opportunities, consulting with her personal board of directors, and continuing to explore new environs. She’s a thrill-seeker, full of adventure, often on the go and loves living life on the edge with activities like ice climbing, mountain biking, skiing, kayaking, while finding any other rad outdoor quest. With her entrepreneurial spirit, Haley Daniels is going places and we can’t wait to hear what’s next for her on this non-competitive journey.

To get The Stripped Naked Podcast underway, host Marci Kornegay reveals just a little of her background and shares the importance and role that sport and athletic identity has played in her early career development. Being a competitive golfer shaped the way Marci selected how she would spend the first 15 years of her professional life as a coach. Building meaningful connections and driving young women golfers to pursuits exceeding the bounds of a golf course were the highlights of her coaching career. Pivoting from coaching, she collected additional interests and has remained firm in her values of being in the people business and always putting herself where she can support and lift others. Searching for identity, purpose, and pursuit is ever-evolving and Marci is proof of that. We will also set the stage of what is to come with future episodes of The Stipped Naked Podcast. Please subscribe wherever you get your podcast and leave your comments, questions and suggestions. Let’s see if we can build an entire Stripped Naked community.
