The Tefilah Podcast

De: Rabbi Matt Schneeweiss
  • Resumen

  • My name is Rabbi Matt Schneeweiss, and this is the hub for all of my shiurim (classes) on Tefilah (Prayer) and related topics, such as Tehilim (Psalms) and Berachos (Blessings)! The shiurim I upload here are given in a variety of formats with different lengths and intended for different audiences. The common theme which unites all of these shiurim is our focus on strengthening our relationship with Hashem through Avodah she'ba'Lev (Service of the Heart). If you have any questions feel free to email me at rabbischneeweiss at gmail. Thanks for listening!

    Length: 1 hour 9 minutes
Synopsis: Last night (5/29/24), in our Wednesday night Tehilim shiur, we attempted to "land the plane." Since it had been two weeks since our last shiur, we began by reviewing everything - the translations, the questions, and the approaches - and then set out to get as many individual ideas as we could. The ideas were great, but I wasn't sure we'd be able to pull it all together. But with Hashem's help, we were able to arrive at a solid PRACTICAL main idea towards the very end which incorporated all of our other insights. I call that a win! This was a difficult perek, but it was worth the effort.

The Torah content this week has been dedicated by me in honor of Ann with gratitude for her monthly support of my Torah content and in celebration of her engagement to Ben. Mazal tov!

In other news, I am considering relaunching my Rambam Bekius podcast. My goal is to cover the entirety of the Rambam’s Hilchos Tefilah, halacha by halacha, in short (5-10 minute) daily episodes. If you are interested in sponsoring my Rambam content specifically, please let me know! I’m eager to make this project a reality, and I’m ready when you are!

Have any questions, insights, or feedback? Send me a text!

    Length: 1 hour 3 minutes
Synopsis: Last night (5/16/24), in our Wednesday night Tehilim shiur, we dove into our in-depth analysis of this perek, raising a bunch of questions, making a bunch of observations, and following our intuition. We discussed a few ideas from the meforshim - most notably, Radak's interpretation of the grammatically anomalous word: יִרַדֹּף - but the main moves we made came from our own theorizing. We began developing an approach and mapped out what remains to be solved. Next time (בג"ה), we'll learn the perek according to one of the meforshim and hopefully be able to "land the plane."

The Torah content from now through Lag ba'Omer has been generously sponsored by Malky M. June is less than a month away which means that I'll soon be transitioning into "summer writing mode," with more substack articles and fewer recorded shiurim. The bulk of these articles will remain free. However, if you would like to support my Torah AND gain access to additional spicy written content, consider becoming a paid subscriber by going to rabbischneeweiss.substack.com.

    May 9 2024

Have any questions, insights, or feedback? Send me a text!

    Length: 1 hour 2 minutes
Synopsis: Tonight (5/8/24), in our Wednesday night Tehilim shiur, we began a new and unfamiliar perek. I selected it because it's clearly about David's struggles with his enemies and (unfortunately) that theme continues to be relevant to Jews in Israel and in the Diaspora today. The translation-work was difficult and we didn't get super far into our analysis beyond finding the pivot point and getting the background information from the relevant biographical episode in David's life. Next time (בג"ה) we'll begin by reviewing, then raising a bunch of questions, and - hopefully! - venturing a theory about the main idea. One important thing I forgot to mention in shiur is that, to my mind, there is a major difficulty in the perek which we didn't even comment on. See if you can find it for next time!
