  • Episode 16 - The Brice Family
    Jul 20 2024

In this episode Colleen continues her research on the Roosevelt Neighborhood of Grand Rapids, Michigan. In this episode she shares her research on the Brice family. Caleb Brice and his wife were the first people in the written record that we've found who were not of Native American or European descent. The Brice's were African Americans from Pennsylvania who immigrated to Michigan from Canada after the Civil War. The family were land owners and active members of several African Methodist Episcopal churches.

interesting research trying to figure out where Robert and Hannah Smalls lived, but only thing I pulled from it was that the planning for the escape happened at Smalls home. Also mentions Dorothy Sterling "research". This also mentions that Robert and Hannah lived in Charleston.
