The hypocrisy of targeting TikTok while overlooking similar practices by American platforms. How we believe TikTok enables the spread of information and challenges the control of traditional media outlets and government officials. We advocate for free access to information, individual responsibility in content consumption, and community support. Is there a role of fact-checkers and the possibility of criminalizing the spread of false information? We are concerned about the disconnect between elected officials and the communities they govern, as well as the polarization of society. We believe in the capability of people to make their own decisions if well-informed and call for empathy, representation, and constructive discourse. It is important to maintain a sharp, strong, and open mind.
