  • Alan Cope
    Jul 8 2019
I first met Alan about a month or so ago, when he came up to Manx Radio to be interviewed about a fundraiser he's doing in August. At 90 years old, he will abseil 100 metres down Liverpool Cathedral. What struck me was his sense of adventure and zest for life, not to mention how sharp he was and the stories he had to tell off-mic. I therefore asked him back for the podcast. We talk about things like being evacuated to the USA during WWII, sailing his yacht across the Atlantic and attending Winston Churchill's funeral.

Manx Radio's new managing director comes to the Isle of Man after spending 28 years travelling the world with the British Forces Broadcasting Service. He's also a pilot and a former pirate (of sorts), and even has an alter ego. Needless to say, he has many interesting tales to tell from his time in the likes of the Falklands, Iraq, Kosovo and Northern Ireland.
