Looking in the Mirror for inspiration

Marcia‘s story and mine are similarly aligned and yet she is seeing success in publishing. Her comment that she might have given up if she had been doing this when she was younger but that with maturity has gained a better sense of herself and is willing to take risks is opposite mine. As I have gotten older I find myself giving up on the dream because rejections (and being ignored by editors) are more discouraging. So I write for myself and hope someone will catch a glimpse of my work. I resonated with the story she sold to Vogue and wonder how she was brave enough to put that out there. I have written a similar story to the one she described and never was brave enough to send it out. I may take a look at that again. Her discussion about Angel stories resonates with my website on which I do podcast about connections with spirit and intentions that have manifested or writers who have had interesting spiritual experiences and have written about it. I am inspired to keep trying because of Marcia’s successes and her making the point that she gets lots of rejections yet she receives an award on a story that was rejected 17 times. Her mention of her recent trip to Poland and her writing about that —with a sense of the political history—is similar to my deep connection to Hungary, which is my travel writing niche but there is an undercurrent of aversion, it seems, by Americans, to wanting to know much about Hungary and I wonder how much their politics in the American news has to do with the preconceptions about the country. I also did research there in the early 2000s on their television viewing from communism and post-communism times and how individuals interacted with television pre- and post1990. I’d love to be in touch with Marcia because this talk was just so meaningful to me in our similar paths and interests.
