Matthew's gospel was written primarily to a Jewish audience, so he is careful in how he uses the name of God. To begin understanding what the New Testament says about heaven and hell it is important to understand the Parable of the Sower. There are four types of hearts that react to the word of God: hard hearts that reject the word, shallow hearts with a superficial relationship, strangled hearts that are shut off and choked out by the things this world cares about, and open hearts. The devil wants our minds to be blinded to the reality of heaven to keep us from entering in. But there is a clear picture in the prophecies of Daniel and others of what will happen in a future time and what occurs after death.
