Hi all! We are Alexus and Michi! We are both PhD students in Hawaii at UH Manoa and love talking about fun topics in science. In our Alexus, explain…! series, Michi asks Alexus random questions about interesting science topics, and Alexus does her best to answer them in an easy, understandable way. In this episode, we are answering questions about how the Hawaiian islands (and craters) were formed, rejuvenated volcanism, the different layers of the earth (inner core, outer core, mantle, crust, lithosphere, asthenosphere), the difference between magma and lava, hotspots, and plate tectonics.
