What We All Know About Student Engagement, but Often Overlook, As We Strive to Drive Authentic Learning

  • Resumen

  • Welcome to the premier episode of The Perfect Storm podcast, where we talk about the exciting possibilities of teaching in a post-COVID world. In this episode, we escape the echo chamber to strike up an unfiltered discussion about student engagement. Dr. Bryan Caplan explores the often unspoken factors that shape students’ interest in our lessons and coursework. He speaks in a refreshingly candid and entertaining way about why students hunt for easy A’s and casually forget most of what they learn after the final exam and, most importantly, what we can do about it.

Bryan Douglas Caplan is an American economist, New York Times best-selling author, and professor of economics at George Mason University. Caplan is also a research fellow at the Mercatus Center, an adjunct scholar at the Cato Institute, and a former contributor to the Freakonomics blog and EconLog. Caplan holds a B.A. in economics from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Ph.D. in economics from Princeton University.
