  • 39. VR Gaming is BIG, Splinter Cell Remake First Look and Dead Island Delayed
    Nov 22 2022

In this weeks episode of What’s On Weekly, Patrick talks about this unexpected journey through Warzone while Ubisoft releases some concept art for their Splinter Cell Remake. Is this to appease fans of the franchise in the hopes it will view Ubisoft in a brighter light? Or are they ever doomed to roam the shadows like Sam Fisher himself. Substack has reported that God of War Ragnarök outsold MWII in the UK and is doing 51% better than God of War (2018).

On the Xbox front, direct discord voice channels are now possible on the console, with PlayStation still no better off and, with Game Pass Ultimate you can get 3 months free Apple TV+ as a perk. In a true-to-form turn of events, Dead Island 2 has been delayed to April 28th 2023. The development of Dead Island 2 has been rough and it doesn’t look any better in 2023.

In another Substack report, by the end of 2022, VR gaming will be at an all time high with 27.7 Million devices worldwide. It is estimated that VR games revenue will reach $1.8 Billion in 2022 and $3.2B by 2024. Spiderman Miles Morales has swung onto PC at a whopping €50. You might remember that on PS5 you could purchase Spider-Man Remastered & Miles Morales for €60 yet these games sit on PC at €59.99 and €49.99 respectively.

In movie news, Alec Baldwin has brought a lawsuit against Hannah Gutierres-Reed, Chief Armorer, Dave Halls (the assistant director), Sarah Zachry (the prop master) and gun supplier Seth Kenney. And the first look at Harrison Food as Indiana Jones is here.

Avalanche has also shown 40 minutes of Hogwarts Legacy gameplay with combat, character creation and customization. In unfortunate news, EA has made the decision to stop the Project Cars franchise and they want to focus more on an open-world, community driven driving game with “ long-term live services that will engage global communities”.

The Last of Us factions could be free-to-play with Sony principal monetisation designer of Fortnite, Anders Howard. “Howard has been in the games industry a long time, serving more than seven years at Epic Games. While he was there, he "helped form the core of Battle Pass progression strategy" for Fortnite, according to his LinkedIn. He also consulted on the Battle Pass integration for Rocket League and Fall Guys”.

In movie news, Ana De Armas is possibly in a spin-off series of John Wick and Sam Mendes talks about the original plot of Skyfall. Quentin Tarantino was asked about directing a MARVEL movie, and his answer is very accurate and honest. Warner Bros have been going through a huge change with management, but two things they want to focus more on is the Harry Potter franchise and release more movies in cinemas and not direct-to-streaming. And finally, Niall and Patrick talk about the new Netflix series The Witcher: Blood Origin that comes to the streaming service on December 25th.
