Who designs Vince Neil's stage clothing on the stadium tour? Tod Junker of Junker Designs shares how he became a clothing designer for Motley Crue

  • Resumen

  • This is Crue Cast, a podcast about the most infamous band in rock history, Motley Crue hosted by Jason LaChance. This episode I talk with fellow Crue Head and Motley Crue stage clothing designer Tod Junker. Tod and I dig into not only how he came to design stage clothing for the different members of Motley Crue, including the current clothing Vince Neil is wearing on the stadium tour but how his career began with a chance meeting. We also talk about his career as a musician including stories of famed producer Rick Ruben and finding sobriety. He's also designed stage clothing for Steven Tyler, and nameless other performing artists.

Junker Designs est. 2001 started with stuff Tod dived in dumpsters, everything is made with grubby little paws. Tod has mutated, overdyed, rusted, painted, buried, or bled on every piece. The clothes are all one of a kind, made from denim, leather, whatever he can find in the dirty streets of Los Angeles.

Wear It Hard. Wear It Loud.

Tod was born at St Vincents in Manhattan and grew up in Houston, Texas on a steady diet of Ultraman, horror movies, war films, and Star Wars. Tod spent a lot of time drawing and exploring the creek by his house. At around the age of 8, he started getting in trouble in school for drawing on all his papers and desk. In high school Tod was getting into trouble for wearing biker boots and painting on his clothes, so he quit and started playing in punk rock bands. During that time, Tod started sewing more and putting the legs of jeans on his jackets for arms, drawing, hand painting, silk-screening, and dying all his clothes. Tod continued to mutilate clothes when he moved to LA in 2000. He started to experiment with aging processes, and patternmaking. He made a vest at a friend’s house, which found its way to Lenny Kravitz who bought it, and that’s how it all started.
