  • S12 E12 Alzheimer's: A Science and History Perspective
    Dec 15 2025
In this episode of Your History Your Story, our guest is Dr. Todd Goldberg. Todd and I became friends back in junior high and high school, but after graduation, life took us in different directions and unfortunately we lost touch. In recent years, however, we reconnected through this podcast after he heard our episode on the Amazing Kreskin. I’m genuinely grateful for that reconnection and very pleased to be speaking with my friend today.Dr. Goldberg is a board-certified internal medicine and geriatric specialist, currently serving as an associate professor at Jefferson Medical School in Philadelphia and chief of geriatric medicine at Jefferson Abington Hospital in Abington, Pennsylvania. He has been recognized for many years as a “Top Doctor” in geriatrics by Philadelphia Magazine, reflecting his deep experience caring for older adults and for families navigating complex medical challenges. One of the central topics of our conversation today is Alzheimer’s disease—its history, the science behind it and what it means for patients and families. This is a subject that is very close to home for me. My mother lived with Alzheimer’s disease, and the impact on her—and on our entire family—was profound. That experience has shaped my interest in understanding the disease more deeply. Dr. Goldberg brings both medical expertise and a compassionate, human perspective to this discussion, including insight into the very real challenges caregivers face and the importance of awareness around the support and resources available to them. In addition to his medical work, he is also an accomplished writer and dedicated history enthusiast, having contributed to numerous medical books and journals, as well as several works exploring the classic comic strip Prince Valiant in the Days of King Arthur and other history-related comics.Today’s conversation brings together medicine, history and lived experience in a way that I believe is both important and deeply meaningful.Music: "With Loved Ones" Jay Man Photo(s): Courtesy of Dr. Todd Goldberg Thank you for supporting Your History Your Story!YHYS Patreon: CLICK HERE YHYS PayPal: CLICK HEREYHYS: Stay in the know, join our mailing list: CLICK HERE YHYS: Website, Blog & Social: CLICK HERE#yhys #yourhistoryyourstory #history #storytelling #podcast #njpodcast #youhaveastorytoo #jamesgardner #historian #storyteller #blogger For more info on Alzheimer's: Association: CLICK HERETo purchase the book, The Thirty Six Hour Day: CLICK HERETo explore Prince Valiant information: CLICK HERE

  • S12 E10 Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm
    Nov 17 2025

In this episode of Your History Your Story, our guest is Julie Kresge, the Marketing and Media Coordinator for Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania.

For more than 30 years, my family has created wonderful memories visiting Quiet Valley’s “Old Time Christmas” program — an annual tradition that truly captures the warmth and spirit of the season. That is why we are especially honored to share the story of this remarkable historic site.

Quiet Valley is a working historical farm that transports you to the 19th century — and even earlier — through its many year-round programs. In addition to “Old Time Christmas”, which includes a live nativity, visitors can enjoy “Farm Animal Frolic,” “Spooky Days on the Farm,” “Harvest Festival” and many other interesting and exciting activities.

A visit to Quiet Valley feels like you are stepping into another time — you can walk among the barns and fields, meet costumed interpreters and even visit a one-room schoolhouse where you can sing songs and experience what it was like to be in school more than 130 years ago.

Join us as we speak with Julie about the fascinating history of Quiet Valley — a farm with roots reaching back to the 1700’s, when its earliest residents included a former Hessian soldier from the American Revolution — and learn how this special place continues to bring the past to life for visitors of all ages.

    Sep 15 2025

Welcome to Your History Your Story! Today, our guest is Leora O’Carroll—an Emmy-nominated writer, producer and accomplished musician. Leora is here to talk about the 2019 book she co-authored with her mother Maureen, titled: “Maureen O’Carroll: A Musical Memoir of an Irish Immigrant Childhood”.

The book shares the inspiring story of Leora’s mother, Maureen, who grew up in Australia as one of ten children of Irish immigrant parents who had fled their homeland in the mid 1920’s to escape possible reprisals due to their political activism.

Guided by the values of her parents in a household filled with resilience, community and a love of music, Maureen went on to become an acclaimed cellist, performing with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and other ensembles around the world. She was also a successful recording artist, soloist and teacher.

  • S12 E5 The Buried Truth of Captain Kidd
    Sep 1 2025

Today on Your History Your Story, we’re joined by Samuel Marquis, acclaimed author of numerous American history and suspense books, including “Blackbeard: The Birth of America”. Samuel is here to talk about his latest work, “Captain Kidd: A True Story of Treasure and Betrayal”.

While many people remember William Kidd as one of history’s most notorious pirates, he was in fact a respected privateer, merchant and wartime hero who made his home in colonial New York City in the late 1600’s. Samuel—who happens to be Kidd’s nine-time great-grandson—shares the real story of a man far more complex than legend suggests and who ultimately became a scapegoat for powerful political forces.
