  • Episode 18: The benefits of hot yoga
    Jul 26 2024

Welcome back to the show. Today host JR Jaquay is welcoming Alice Toyonaga, co-owner of ModoYogaLA. Alice is here to share the benefits of hot yoga and talk about whether or not she considers herself a "yogi". Her description of a yogi may surprise you.

Are you struggling with stress in your life? We all feel it sometimes; the daily grind of our lives can sometimes just be overwhelming. I am on a journey, learning to deal with my stressful life. My objective is not to look like I always have everything under control because that's just not a realistic picture of my life. I would rather have conversations about my struggles with friends, with my listeners. Having open conversations is how we break stereotypes and normalize speaking about our mental health struggles. Fitness, therapy, meditation...find what helps you and keep doing it. I hope you enjoy today's episode.

    Jun 12 2024

    Summary

Anna Stern, a coach and adaptive athlete, shares her journey of overcoming cancer and living with a neurological movement disorder called dystonia. She discusses the challenges faced by adaptive athletes and the importance of accessibility in fitness spaces. Disappointment is a universal emotion that can affect anyone, regardless of age, race, gender, or financial status. Support from teammates, coaches, and family is crucial in helping athletes bounce back. It's important to remember that disappointment does not define one's worth, and setbacks can be turned into opportunities for growth.

  • Episode 15: Setting realistic goals
    May 9 2024

Welcome back to the podcast. This week I want to discuss setting realistic goals. So often people find themselves setting goals and later realizing they didn't accomplish those goals. Why does this happen? Are people jusy lazy? I don't think that's the answer. More often than not folks don't quite understand how much work needs to go into success. Maybe they don't know where to start.

Today I am going to outline the S.M.A.R.T. rule and hopefully it provides clarity on how to find success.

  • Episode 14: Mastering the basic skills.
    May 2 2024

    Welcome back my people!

Did you hear about the return of one Gabby Douglas? She returned to competition this past weekend. Here is a video of her FLOOR ROUTINE from the American Classic where she qualified to the US Championships. Not too shabby for taking 7 years off!

Today we are going to talk about mastering basic skills. Why is this important? I'm glad you asked. Today I will answer all those questions and hopefully give you both insight as an athlete and possibly how to help your child why it is so important to master the easy stuff before they can master the more difficult stuff.

Here is the link to the HOLLOW BODY TRAINING VIDEO I mentioned in the podcast. Remember the hollow body is the building block for so many gymnastics skills you will also find in CrossFit.
