College Students Sociology

Upward mobility through the path of higher education has been an article of faith for generations of working-class, low-income, and immigrant college students. While we know this path usually entails financial sacrifices and hard work, very little attention has been paid to the deep personal compromises such students have to make as they enter worlds vastly different from their own.

As the revenues generated by big-time college sports continue to skyrocket, virtually all of the debate involves whether (and how much) student-athletes should be paid for play. Kenneth L. To learn about sociology - in other words, to learn about the forces that govern society - don't study sociology; study the way in which sociology is studied. If, instead of studying within sociology departments, you take such departments as the veritable object of your study, you will discover a fraud far greater than anything exposed by any sociologist, and the depth of your subsequent understanding of human nature will extend as far as that fraud runs deep.
