For the last several years, I've noticed an increase among my clientele in people who suffer with gut-related pain or other stomach issues. I treat anxiety, which underlies much of this problem, and I am always searching out techniques for activating the ventral vagus, initiating greater calm and a resolution of physical symptoms. Nicole Reap's book is packed with this kind of information and so many teachable skills that clients of any age can learn. I found her approach refreshingly easy to understand . . . and the techniques work! I'm recommending this to all my friends and family who have irritable bowel syndrome or any other anxiety-related physical symptomatology. Plus, all of us can benefit from these simple ways of returning to the body with gentle strategies for activating rest/digest and social calm.

Heartgrove's book, Anxious Attachment Recovery, is a must-read for anyone who recognizes in themselves the features and struggles of an anxious attachment style. I really appreciate her approach to the subject because she's very relatable: she shares lots of personal history and feelings that allow the reader to engage with these ideas more readily. I also appreciate the inclusion of research details that open the theoretical world up to readers who may not have psychology training. I found the words and exercises encouraging and soothing and l'll definitely recommend to clients.

Herbal Remedies, by Mark Fox, is a straightforward, comprehensive guidebook for the use of herbs in helping every kind of physical condition. I really enjoyed listening to the book because it went through each common ailment, including stress and anxiety, and gave a list of herbs to address every issue, along with how to use those herbs. The narration was calming and clear and the pace allowed me to take notes on specific remedies I'd like to try now. These ideas open a whole world of homeopathy that may replace my entire medicine cabinet.

I loved this book. Although I wasn't sure what to expect, Y.D. Gardens delivered on emotional, spiritual, and literary levels. Growing Into You is part memoir, part self-help, and part education on the concept of "self." What does it mean to have a self or to become familiar with it? This book answers the question with depth and original insights, the author sharing personal anecdotes to teach and to illustrate the WHY of developing a stronger sense of self through understanding intuition, gut feelings, trusting yourself, and defining yourself in relation to others and in relation to whatever false concepts we've internalized. Y.D. encourages us to "face the music" through poetic descriptions of the benefits of - and steps toward - prioritizing self-respect in a world that pulls for us to try and please everyone else.
