Love the Torrents!!
Reviewed: 02-14-25
I like the first person view and how you follow Harlow and her adventures. All the characters have depth and each book is a fun read as they all add up to the final book. My favorite character is the cat, which is hysterical as I'm a solid dog person. The way he is used to move the story is fantastic. I know the author said she wouldn't return to Harlot Bay but if she did, I'd be reading it!

Story
Deep down here by the dark water lived old Gollum, a small slimy creature. I don’t know where he came from, nor who or what he was. He was Gollum—as dark as darkness, except for two big round pale eyes in his thin face. He had a little boat, and he rowed about quite quietly on the lake; for lake it was, wide and deep and deadly cold.

I loved the character arc of Bilbo
Reviewed: 08-27-24
I read this as a child, 10 or 11 and I always return to it every few years. This time I decided to listen to it and was not disappointed. Andy Serkis does a wonderful job.
The story itself is one of growth. Bilbo is pushed out of his comfort zone and learns much. I return to it as a reminder.

Story
Cairo, 1912: Though Fatma el-Sha’arawi is the youngest woman working for the Ministry of Alchemy, Enchantments and Supernatural Entities, she’s certainly not a rookie, especially after preventing the destruction of the universe last summer. So when someone murders a secret brotherhood dedicated to one of the most famous men in history, al-Jahiz, Agent Fatma is called onto the case.

A delightful story!

First let me address the narrator. Yes, there are some slowdowns and odd pronunciations. not enough to detract in my opinion and I will listen again.
The story is awesome. I was caught between wanting to devour and wanting to show down and relish it. I will not give any spoilers but if you like a good read with some steampunk, this is your book!

Fantastic research shows
Reviewed: 06-01-17
Historical fiction when it involves Templars is always entertaining but when it is well researched the story shows it. I don't like spoilers so you won't get any from me but the plot twists were well done and kept with the characters. I also appreciated the breakdown between truth and fiction at the end, almost as intriguing as the book itself.
The narrator of the book was fantastic, easy to listen to and I will be looking for more of his works as well as the authors.
