Where does My Prison Without Bars rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It's good, not great. The story has the ability to move one emotionally. The torture that this woman went through as a child is sickening and deplorable. The story was a touch too long and the graphic content could/should have been toned down.

Would you recommend My Prison Without Bars to your friends? Why or why not?

No. It's just too graphic and a little repetitive. After hour 12, it began to get a bit tedious.

What does Em Eldridge bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Em did an excellent reading. Her voice was soothing and soft. I never became bored with her and she kept up the tempo perfectly.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The abuse was scalding, but we didn't need to hear every instance of it. A couple of times was fine, but the graphic nature of the attacks was lost after the 5th, 6th, and 7th go around. It had a more shocking effect in it's first descriptions.

Any additional comments?

5 stars for the narrator based on her excellent reading.
3 stars for the story because it was too repetitive and didn't need to be so graphic. It is a strong 3 stars and should not be considered a negative criticism.
4 stars total. Strong subject matter that could have been better, but is still solid.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Yes. The narrator needed to slow the pace. It was far too fast. I felt like she was in a rush.

What other book might you compare The Witches of BlackBrook to and why?

It was very original. Hard to say.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Michelle Marie?

Anybody that would have taken their time.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

I really can't answer that. A book is way different than any movie.

Any additional comments?

Tish Thawer did a fine job of writing. The narrator was simply faster than I like.

The desperation and paranoia of the lead character. Her plight was extremely scary and frustrating.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jesse. She was the centerpiece.

Have you listened to any of Lindsay Crouse’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Not yet, but I will.

If you could rename Gerald's Game, what would you call it?

Trapped like a rat.

Any additional comments?

The stray dog was creepy, while Jesse's past was a precursor of her plight. Gerald was just a pig.

Absolutely. I love the characters I created, especially Amy. It was a lot of fun to write.

Amy's face-offs with Jack Beauregard. The chemistry was great. Also Amy's confrontations with her "other" self.

Which character – as performed by Anna Castiglioni – was your favorite?

Old Man Garrison...hand's down. She nailed the old geezer.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

As I was writing it, I never knew which way it would shift. I went with the flow and let the book basically write itself.

Any additional comments?

Nice narration by Anna Castiglioni. She handled the characters with enthusiasm.

Yes, because I have been suffering from most of the same problems that Joey and millions of people suffer with.

While this is not a self-help book, it serves that purpose in a different way. So books describing Anxiety and Depression.

What does Holter Graham bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I loved his easy going inflections and enthusiastic attitude.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
