My childhood
Reviewed: 08-27-23
I am in awe of these books as much today in my 50s as when I was a child. I never cared for The Horse and His Boy, though. But the others are just magical to me. These books were written by such a creative, amazing Christian mind. Narrators are good, some better than others. Overall, listen. It is a timeless joy.

Mary Stewart has been my favorite since I discovered her when I was in high school in the 80s. Somehow I never read this one. I have been so happy to listen to her audiobooks, and this was no different. The narrator does a beautiful job, and I will be looking for her name for other books she’s read. I’m so glad I found this, the first romantic suspense. Mary was definitely the best.

I cannot handle the narrators, especially the main girl. You’ll like this if you don’t mind listening to a podcast performed by two girls who think they’re funny but are just annoying and fake. Couldn’t even get halfway through.

Very interesting

Author does a great job of playing a tug-of-war between the two Good Samaritans. Which one is guilty? Sometimes I got irritated at Carrie. Sometimes it’s obvious what’s going to happen. But all in all, a good whodunit. The reason I found this book is because this narrator is AMAZING. I listened to her narrate one of my favorite Mary Stewart books, and I really wanted to find more of her work. She does a wonderful job with this book, and her voice is always lovely to listen to. She does a very good job of performing Carrie’s necessary flat affect.

Mary Stewart is the best. I liked this narrator quite a lot except that she puts emphasis on her Gs in a strange way when a word ends in G. Kind of weird. But overall good.

No one beats Mary Stewart in my mind. I have loved these books for decades. I discovered this one while I was in high school and I’ve loved it ever since. People say it’s very dated: well yes, it was written in the 60s, it was a very different time, and Mary was a very learned person. Her books are works of art.

What a delight it is to finally be able to enjoy a simple meal again! I have been in the throes of morning sickness for the last few months as Darcy and I prepare to welcome a brand-new addition to our little family. Now that I am feeling better, I have realized I am dreadfully bored! It seems that all my nearest and dearest are off leading their own busy lives while I sit at home and attempt to train our two adorably naughty puppies. Fun as it may be, it is hard not to long for a little adventure, a change of pace, before my true confinement begins when the baby comes.

Okay. I’m a little tired of Georgie and her not figuring things out until it’s too late when the answer is right in front of her nose for the better part of the book. Sometimes I get frustrated and wish the bad guy wouldn’t be so darn obvious. The reason I’ve listened to all of these books in a row nonstop since Christmas is that I love the time period, I love England, and I love history. I love the info of how the royal family was at this time . And, I love the current narrator very much, she is excellent.
