Story
Myron Bolitar has always dreamed about the femme fatale walking into his office and asking for help. The woman standing in his doorway has killer curves all right: She’s eight months pregnant, which kind of ruins the fantasy. Former tennis star Suzze T and her rock star husband, Lex, are both clients, and over the years Myron has negotiated his share of contracts for the power pair. But now Lex has disappeared and Suzze is in tears, fearing the online rumors questioning the baby’s paternity have driven away Lex.

Harlan is in top form in this one, but it takes a great actor/interpreter/storyteller to make the story magnificent. We’re lucky to have Steven reading to us.

Story
Columbo was arguably the most popular and most unique television mystery series ever - even though, within two minutes of the titles, the audience already knew the murderer’s identity. The show captivated tens of millions of viewers for 69 adventures produced over 35 years. Yet if star Peter Falk had gotten his way, it would have run far longer. The “shooting” of Columbo was filled with backstage intrigue and larger-than-life personalities who, through it all, created unforgettable classic television.

There in nothing; I repeat, NOTHING like listening to Mr. Brooks for an extended period of time. His wit, insight and zaniness raises the human spirit to a height unattainable by any other means.
Thanks to this audible we mere mortals can hear the stories previously reserved for his friends and family, so do yourself a huge favor and buy it. You will be glad you did, and you may even get a hurumph from that guy.

Story
Beloved stage and screen actor Danny Aiello’s big-hearted memoir reveals a man of passion, integrity, and guts - and lays bare one of the most unlikely success stories ever told. Danny Aiello admits that he backed into his acting career by mistake. That’s easy to see when you begin at the beginning: Raised by his loving and fiercely resilient mother in the tenements of Manhattan and the South Bronx, and forever haunted by the death of his infant brother, Danny struggled early on to define who he was and who he could be.

A combination of Charles Dickens and Mario Puzo must have inspired Mr. Aiello to create one of the best autobiographies I’ve ever experienced. He didn’t just work in movies. HIS LIFE could have been a movie.
His performance is so powerful that this is less like a reading and more like a play. I’m so glad he recorded it, but sad that I can’t meet him or watch any more.great Aiello performances on screen or stage.
He was a one-off. We will not see his like again. BUY THIS AUDIBLE!

Not Connelly’s best work
Reviewed: 01-30-21
Spoiler alert:
Michael Connelly is my favorite writer, but this one misses the mark.
I love the characters, but the story was unsatisfying and left several plot elements unanswered.
The reader was good, but I’m so used to Matty McConaughey or Titus Welliver DOING McConaughey that I never really got used to the voice.
Maybe it’s me. I like the whole package tied up at the end of the book. Connelly remains my favorite author, but this one is a disappointment.

Guys & Dolls...The Boyfriend...How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying...Can-Can... These are just a few of the many Broadway shows produced by the legendary Cy Feuer, who, in partnership with the late Ernest H. Martin, brought to life many of America's most enduring musicals. Cy Feuer was at the center of these creations, as well as the films based on two of Broadway's most exceptional musicals, Cabaret and A Chorus Line. He was the man in charge, the one responsible for putting everything together, and - almost more important - for holding it together.

In the mid-70s, Steve Martin exploded onto the comedy scene. By 1978 he was the biggest concert draw in the history of stand-up. In 1981 he quit forever. Born Standing Up is, in his own words, the story of "why I did stand-up and why I walked away".

The entire book was extremely touching. Martin’s memoir of his life is a delightful trip through the second half of the 20th century, both in and of show biz. Even if you know all about him you will learn surprising background information on his remarkable life and career.
As a big fan from the beginning I was shocked by his tales of struggles at times when I believed he was on top of the world. In this book he allows us behind the curtain, which feels like a gift from such a private man, and the view backstage is wonderful.
He didn’t discuss his relationships, which was disappointing, but I suppose there’s only so much he can share. On the other hand, it leaves open the possibility of a second volume, and since I finished this one I’m jonesing for more Steve. Do yourself a favor and listen to this great book.

Guarding Gable - an original audio novel by Nat Segaloff - starts with an actual event in the life of the screen's number one star and becomes a story worthy of a Hollywood movie. It's 1942 and World War II is just beginning. Beloved actress Carole Lombard is killed in a plane crash while returning from a bond-selling tour and her husband, Clark Gable, is beyond consolation. Depressed to the point of suicide, he enlists in the US Army Air Corps, telling his bosses at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer that he doesn't care if he ever comes back.
