Great guests and discussions. They acknowledge the more liberal bent of the show and that is a-ok. Good alternative to Right Wing Radio/Podcasts and Fox News.

I am so grateful to have stumbled onto this podcast several months ago. Full disclosure: I was already a trailrunner and my wife has struggled with addiction - so I may have been predisposed to get a lot from these programs. Listening and using what I have learned has helped me become a better father and husband. The interviews and solo episodes found here are very empowering. Blu Robinson and Marissa employ a relaxed, non-pushy style that is easy to listen to.

A solid start point is episode 89 "Illuminate" (9/8/20) as it features Coach Blu being interviewed and the history and philosophy of this non-profit are nicely explained.

This was my favorite of his since The Corrections. May be an even better book.

Crossroads features deep character studies of what at first seem like an ordinary, upstanding family. These characters' depths and back stories are revealed slowly and expertly. I thought the empathy shown to the mentally ill, the addicted, the judgemental, the weak, the self-adoring, and the self-despising was remarkable. This author is very good at finding the humanity in his characters, even the less likable ones. I especially enjoyed the chapters taking place in the Navajo Nation.

Narration and production were superb. While this is the start of a trilogy (the plan is to cover a 50 year timespan) Crossroads stands on its own nicely.

Beautiful writing. A meditation on journey and death and life and regret and guardianship. Read perfectly by the narrator.
I had heard Mr. Wagamese was planning a sequel at the time of his death. While I would have loved to have read that sequel; this novel's arc is very satisfying and feels more than complete.

Such a sweet and epic novel (not descriptors that normally go together). Very well realized characters. Several of those we meet only briefly would be worthy of novels of their own. Deeply moving, both terribly sad and at times very funny. Ron Mclarty reads his own work perfectly.
The interview at the end was delightful.

Riveting story, compelling (but not always likable) point of views and surprisingly it fits well in our more modern times. Political History Junkies will enjoy lining up the characters with (never even close to exact) real life counterparts. It very much deserved it's Pulitzer. The audiobook's performer and the production were flawless- a stellar performance.

The listener must forgive a little due to the era it was written. Soviets are given very little humanity in the tale (those who watched Rocky and Bullwinkle will recognize the nuance). Those who wish for some accommodation with them are treated as cowards. The few examples of people of color who are diplomats are treated somewhat subservient and weak. A fewof the female characters are quite strong (some very much aren't). On the flip side a surprisingly gentle and human approach to human sexuality in all it's forms is displayed.

Don't let my little disclaimer divert you. You will be the richer for having listened.

Wally Lamb fans don't mind a long novel. I have no idea why Audible would be offering only this abridged version in 2020!

It's a fine story - so if you dig The Reader's Digest Versions of Content then by all means enjoy. I went back to my print version. I did enjoy the reader's voice - certainly not his fault so much of the good stuff is missing.

The Author happens to be a talented reader - this is a rare treat for the listener. The title character, based on the Author's grandfather, was especially intriguing - a humble man possessing great wisdom. It is a multi-character narrative where all of the voices and perspectives feel authentic; the products of their place and time. Highly recommended for those who enjoyed The Round House.

Guthrie wrote the direct sequel to "The Way West" titled "Fair Land, Fair Land" in 1981 (so very much last in publication date but 3rd in the chronological order of the 6 related books in sequence). "Fair Land, Fair Land" follows the further story of Dick Summers - it begins just after Summer's last scene in "The Way West". Unfortunately "Fair Land, Fair Land" is not currently available on Audible (as of 2/2020). Print version is available on Amazon.

"These Thousand Hills" is an excellent book and is highly recommended. Takes place in 1880's with a descendent of the wagon train. Very much a novel that stands on it's own.
Just wanted to pass on the info since I was initially confused.

An exceptional novel. Can be read and enjoyed without having read the previous "Big Sky" as only one major character really crosses over between the novels (Big Sky is also very good but is qute different in tone - in my opinion the earlier book is a much darker story).
Narration is excellent as well.
