Story
Joe takes his first step into exile, and is promptly unable to breathe. This new Zone has a higher concentration of power, magnitudes denser. His first task is to survive, but mere survival is the least of his concerns. The Zone he has landed on has been in a state of constant war for thousands of years, a tug of war between the Elven and Dwarven societies. Not choosing a side is the same as declaring both to be your personal enemy. Though he is resistant, Joe reluctantly decides to go with the group he thinks will help him grow the most.

Loved this series but something went wrong.

As hesitant as I was at even writing this review because of how much I fell in love with this series even with a few of its flaws something went horribly wrong.
I'll leave a better review on the previous book because this one shouldn't reflect on the series as a whole.
Luke Daniels being literally one of my favorite readers on Audible for one specific reason ruined this book for me. Luke decided to branch out and do some funny voices for some of the new characters in the start of this book. Specifically with a voice that's a cross between Kermit the Frog and Yoda. while utilized in small doses wasn't a big deal it however became a serious chore listening to this book when these characters began describing complex situations for long drawn out sentences in the end sounding like nails on a chalkboard. I couldn't even bring myself to slog through another second of that noise. Like I said though I have an enormous amount of respect for both author and reader. I just wished someone had voiced an opinion like this to Luke so he wouldn't have done this.

In my vast library of varying genres I consider this to be one of the most enjoyable listens I have lent my ear to. Both Mr. Dane and Mr. Esposito are outstanding narrators and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another book with either one in it. I was expecting an outstanding story because I'm a huge fan of Richard Fox( Wheres my next Ember wars universe installment?)and was not disappointed at all.
This is a riveting story of two outstanding leaders of men in war. I wont spoil it for you so please go ahead and buy it for yourself and get strapped in. You're in for a wild ride!

Spoiler Alert.
This has been one of my favorite series of all time. I've enjoyed reading each and everyone of these books to the point where I cant stop wanting more. with that being said I found myself really struggling to get through this most recent entry. I make no judgements about the author as I really enjoy the work he has put into these books. this one simply lacked any actual substance. the vast majority of this entire book is dealing with prompts and notifications. with only a paltry two or three hours devoted to actual stuff happening. (although the poop humor reeled me back in for the end) I'm well aware of the time one would spend in RPGs allocating points, dealing with notifications, etc as I am an avid gamer myself. I find myself not really appreciating that aspect of it in literary form however. there should've some time to devoting to that but not almost the entire book. however the author has done a wonderful job setting up the next installment of this book for me so I will certainly be getting it as soon as its available on audible. gnomes rule!

Story
The Corporations - the wielders of power in a society not long from now - brought about the end of civilization as we know it, nuking each other to the point where it collapsed. Ishmael doesn’t know any of this, though; in fact, he doesn’t know anything about himself when he wakes up in this shattered world. All of his autobiographical and episodic memories are gone, and along with them, any knowledge of who he was or anything in his past. Worse, he has made enemies of some very important people, and they are after him.

At first I was a bit miffed that Mathew Cade and Zee Zee Pratt weren't going to be involved in this book.
however I soon got over it with the new lead character Fred. I was on the edge of my seat the entire book wondering what was going to happen next. Jaw dropping, gut punching action one moment after another! And as usual Mr. Boyette is a phenomenal narrator who gives soo much depth and charisma to each individual character. all in all you wont regret this series.

I'll have to make this the only review I do for the entire trilogy black fleet included.
one thing that sets this author's works apart from the rest is how he accurately describes the vastness of space. engagements take days if not weeks to play out. with that being said however nothing is taken away from the excitement this series provides to a listener. one of the absolute must read series for all space opera/action enthusiasts. The adventures of Captain Jackson Wolfe and Celeste Wright is a tale to be told of The exhilarating, frightening, and strange mysteries hidden within the black void of space.
there are soo many complex facets and personalities the many characters display within that simply have to be experienced first hand.
Last but not least the narrator is quite simply one of the best I've ever heard in the business of audiobook wonders. The many voices and personas he portrays for the many complex characters makes me believe that if Mr. Dalzelle had voices in mind for each of them they would be spot on!!
Do yourself a favor and buy every single one of these books! You will not be disappointed!

what In the world did you guys do with Stephen hoye?? that man was your ace in the hole for the dragon age series and you bring in a droll nasally sounding Gildart??
Mr. Hoye captured my heart and left me hanging on to every word in the stolen throne and the calling.
I don't know what's going on audible with your performers in these books but the quality of readers is severely lacking. luckily for you guys this is a book I've been wanting to listen to for ages so I'm going to fight through the hell that Mr. Jackson puts everyone through in his books during his destruction of exciting literature.
now that I've listened to it I'll say that the story was great. still narration left much to be desired.
