Story
Viv's career with the notorious mercenary company Rackam's Ravens isn't going as planned. Wounded during the hunt for a powerful necromancer, she's packed off against her will to recuperate in the sleepy beach town of Murk—so far from the action that she worries she'll never be able to return to it. What's a thwarted soldier of fortune to do? Spending her hours at a beleaguered bookshop in the company of its foul-mouthed proprietor is the last thing Viv would have predicted, but it may be both exactly what she needs and the seed of changes she couldn't possibly imagine.

This book is a delightful return to the world of Viv the Orc in the life she led prior to the one she began in Legends and Lattes. It's worth the listen. ❤️

Narrator was wonderful.

This story was pleasant enough but could have been told in less than half the chapters. I feel like the author had good ideas but never wrote more than skin deep before jumping to the next one. I kept listening thinking it would tie all together somehow and then it just ended. I would consider that maybe an editor could have helped revise a more concise version or a better outline to help the author better develop the story line and create depth in the characters. There were ample opportunities to do so.

Story
I’m Everly Abbott, and I work for one of the most dangerous vampires in the world. He’s known as Alexius, the Hunter and he’s also one of the oldest. We’ve been invited to a gathering of ancients like him, and we can’t pass on this opportunity. We’re hoping to gather information, anything that might draw us closer to the group behind Jacob’s murder, the events in Alaska, and the threatening email I received. However, we’re not the only ones attending with our own agenda.

Not enough words to properly review
Reviewed: 08-27-22
Mercedes Lackey has been one of my favorite authors for decades and like a faithful friend I will always be prepared to hear the words she writes. I was a little disappointed in this story because I felt like this presented as more of an outline for a story vs. a stand alone novel. Because I am familiar with the previous stories I knew of the non human races mentioned and who Raven was it this is never really developed or explained. If this was the first Mercedes' Lackey book I had read I do not think I would have chosen another. She is a talented author but this book seemed to be rushed. There were parts of this story full of the richness I expect from this author heavily dosed with underdeveloped avenues/characters which left me flat and considering not finishing the book. If this is the first Mercedes Lackey book you read, please try some of her earlier books. They will not disappoint.

Here is the novel that will be forever considered a triumph of the imagination. Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Maud'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.
