Story
When Sonya MacTavish inherits the huge Victorian mansion on the coast of Maine, she has no idea that the house is haunted. The footsteps she hears at night, the doors slamming, the music playing, are not figments of her imagination. In her dreams she sees glimpses of the past. In the present she finds portraits of brides. And when she has visions of an antique mirror, she is drawn to it, sensing it holds dark family secrets.

I've been an avid reader and now listener of Nora Robert's work. The Lost Bride trilogy doesn't disappoint. As always Nora's descriptive writing give you a mind-movie of the story. The characters are relatable and the story interesting. Unlike some you don't see the next story point a mile away. These days I have so much professional nonfiction reading to do that my pleasure "reading" time is almost non-existent. I'm a read-a-holic though and so my commute and time running errands has become a precious time for enjoying stories such as those Nora writes. The narration is wonderful too. A bad narrator can kill the best novel for me so I really appreciate the good ones!

This is my first story of this type on Audible and I foundcit to be a lot of fun. It reminded of the the way they used to do dramas on the radio. You don't have to be a KPop fan to enjoy the story. It's just a really nice, light story and it was nice to listen to while driving.

Story
Minalan the Spellmonger has come a long way since he woke up to a goblin invasion almost a decade ago. Since then, he has built cities and mighty armies, invented new enchantments, and pioneered entirely new fields of magic. Now that the Witch Queen of Darkfaller has taken over one of the most powerful castles in the center of the kingdom, he has to marshal all his resources—political, military, and arcane—to try to drive her from the strategic and symbolically important stronghold.

I love these series and I'm always excited for a new one. My only complaint was that it seemed to end in an odd place. It feels like a longer story that got chopped in two. When I heard "epilog"... I checked my app because I thought I'd accidently skipped some chapters. it's as if this book set up alot of things: orb changes; nephew issues; God issues; Garetth, sentient trees; the lady at the end; etc. etc. etc. then just moved on. Of course sometimes we need these bridge books so the next one is even better... and maybe I'm just being greedy as I never want them to end.

Story
From the moment Dara of Westwood spied the Silver Headed Raptor nesting in Rundeval Peak, the precocious redheaded 12-year-old girl was enchanted. The youngest daughter of the Master of the Wood lived in ramshackle Westwood Hall, in the independently minded Westwood estate of Sevendor. Her determination to capture a baby falcon and train it wasn’t hampered by the fact that Dara had never climbed a mountain, had never been trained in falconry, or even remotely had permission from her father to do it.

I LOVE the Spellmonger series... but I've been avoiding the spinoff as it is supposedly for young readers. But I was getting frustrated waiting on the next in the Spellmonger series so I gave in and bought this first installment of the Hawkmaiden and I really enjoyed it. No... not as much as the main story but I am enjoying it and will buy the others.

Though an early work, the story and narration are great, and I highly recommend this double story by White. These days, I'm an avid reader of Karen White's work... but many years ago when this came out, I had not yet heard of her. I was going on a weekend field trip with my high school students to a science camp at the lake in Santee, SC. I'm a "read-a-holic" and always have something to read with me wherever I go. I grabbed the first book that looked interesting when I hurriedly ran into a store for last-minute supplies.
By the 2nd day of the trip, I was halfway through the book. I was following along behind my group of students as they were doing activities with the camp instructor. While they were doing activities, I would read. It was a long final day, and as I got on the bus and finished checking that we had everyone, I then reached for this book that had so captivated me so I could read on the long drive back... and it was GONE!
I remembered then that it was on a stump on the trail. My heart was broken as it was a good mile or two away, and we had to leave. I was. I looked for the book every time I went into the store again for a long time but never saw it again. Eventually, I ran across White's Tradd Street series and fell in love with them. I didn't connect her with that long missing book, though, until I saw her re-release of it here on Audible. I'm so very happy to have now finished these two wonderful stories. It's hard to believe she was a fledgling writer when she wrote them.

I've read and listened to so many of Karen White's stories and always loved them... especially The Tradd Street ones. Somehow, I had missed this book. It's the one that made my cry though. It's like she took so many people in my life, swirled them in a hurricane and revealed anew. I suppose having lived most of my life in Eastern South Carolina there would be much to evoke memories... especially The Pavilion where I worked one summer while on break from the University of South Carolina. Yes, it truly is a travesty that they knocked it all down for more shopping. I live inland from Georgetown, not far from the town of Darlington... and could always smell the papermill when the wind was right. I really don't miss that though. My childhood doctor was much like Boyd... but funny enough was Dr. Griffin but when I was younger I thought it was Griffith. My mother was named Margaret (though she hated that name & used another) and took many secrets to her grave... including that I was adopted which I didn't find out until I was 52. SMH... but I imagine many of my generation in the South can connect with this story as southern women keep way too much secret.

❤️ It's a great story, but I did not notice it was the abridged version until I had already bought it. I feel like I missed too much of the story. One of the BEST things about Nora's books are the wonderful details. I will purchase the rest of the trilogy, BUT in unabridged format. I wish if Audible has both the abridged & unabridged versions of a book that it would show that plainly in the details where the series link/icon is located. I only took away the 2 stars for the story because I felt I missed half it! It's not really the author nor the story's fault but there's no star category to rate Audible or the book's editor that chopped it up. Nora should. NO ONE SHOULD EVER ABRIDGE A NORA ROBERTS NOVEL! I hope she objects to it being done with any other stories! ❤️

I've seen the negative comments here but disagree in general. When taking all 3 novels togetheraybe it isn't as strong as the first but the complete story is still great. I really hope the author finds a reason to revisit New Hope and these characters she gave so much life to in the first book. I'd certainly love to know what happened later with them. In such a rich story of magic and a new struggling world there certainly had to be new challenges... for this group as well as the next generation.

Story
The goblin invasion is on...and a wizard's work is never done! After facing a hopeless siege, an implacable foe, and an impossible escape, you would think that Minalan the Spellmonger would be able to rest - but the armies of the undead goblin shaman Shereul (known as the Dead God to his human victims) are rolling over the Western reaches of the rustic Duchy of Alshar and is headed toward the heart of the Duchy of Castal. Thousands are fleeing for their lives as hordes of goblins pour out of Boval Vale and devastate the rugged fiefs of the Alshari Wilderlands.
