Energizing and relaxing at the same time!
Revisado: 04-29-19
I've done yoga and meditation off and on for years. Sometimes the recordings are too fast, sometimes too slow, sometimes too relaxing -- you get it; they don't always work the best for me. Still, there's always something good to take the time to do them, so I always approach them with an open mind.
This one is really great! I feel relaxed, yet energized and my mind is awake and focused.

Historia
The powerful debut novel from Alan Brennert, Moloka’i tells the story of Rachel Kalama, a seven-year-old Hawaiian girl who contracts leprosy and is quarantined on the island of Moloka’i during the 1890s. Separated from her family and forced to grow up in the leper colony of Kalaupapa, Rachel experiences intense isolation. But she remains strong, finding moments of joy, and even love. Rich in Hawaiian history, this novel proves itself a stellar piece of historical fiction.

Amazing Story
Revisado: 08-24-17
The narrator really made the story come alive and pulled you into the characters who led such extraordinary lives. I found myself near tears many times and many times nearly choking with laughter. It was a joy to listen to, and an important glimpse into Hawai'i's history.

Most people want to avoid thinking about death, but Caitlin Doughty - a 20-something with a degree in medieval history and a flair for the macabre - took a job at a crematory, turning morbid curiosity into her life’s work. With an original voice that combines fearless curiosity and mordant wit, Caitlin tells an unusual coming-of-age story full of bizarre encounters, gallows humor, and vivid characters (both living and very dead).

Death and wisdom and entertainment
Revisado: 04-16-17
Where does Smoke Gets in Your Eyes rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Very high. The author is a great narrator and the wisdom she imparts while giving a fascinating peek behind the curtains is excellent.
What did you like best about this story?
The humor, the behind-the-scenes view of the death industry.
Any additional comments?
If you like science writer Mary Roach's book STIFF, you'll love this book, too. Both are fascinating without being morbid.

Historia
Most folks associate the city of Salem, Massachusetts, with witches, but for Lee Barrett it's home. This October she's returned to her hometown - where her beloved Aunt Ibby still lives - to interview for a job as a reporter at WICH-TV. But the only opening is for a call-in psychic to host the late-night horror movies. It seems the previous host, Ariel Constellation, never saw her own murder coming.

What did you love best about Caught Dead Handed?
I loved the setting (Salem), the psychic phenomena (well-presented), and the cat, O'Ryan, though you don't really get to know him until the second book.
Any additional comments?
It went a little long at the end (I had already figured out the killer), but I still wanted to keep reading until the end.

Good cozy mystery with believable magic
Revisado: 04-24-14
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
In Juliet Blackwell's "A Witchcraft Mystery" series, she creates a world in which natural witches and witches who had no skills before training exist side by side, each learning and practicing differently, but each having an effect.
What does Xe Sands bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Xe Sands really brings Blackwell's characters to life. I can visualize them better. Excellent narration.
If you could take any character from In a Witch's Wardrobe out to dinner, who would it be and why?
Lily. She sounds like she'd be a good conversationalist.

Historia
As a child, Elisha witnessed the burning of a witch outside of London, and saw her transformed into an angel at the moment of her death, though all around him denied this vision. He swore that the next time he might have the chance to bind an angel’s wounds, he would be ready. And so he became a barber-surgeon, at the lowest ranks of the medical profession, following the only healer’s path available to a peasant’s son. Elisha is good at his work, but skill alone cannot protect him. In a single catastrophic day, Elisha’s attempt to deliver his brother’s child leaves his family ruined, and Elisha himself accused of murder.
