Historia
The first book of D Day Through German Eyes has fascinated listeners around the world with its insight into the German experience of June 6, 1944. Now, book 2 contains a completely different set of astonishing German testimonies from the same archive. These newly translated eyewitness statements by German veterans show the defenders to be determined but psychologically insecure, often deluded in their thinking, and all too human in their shock at the onslaught they faced.

A number of new insights
Revisado: 08-05-24
There are a number of interesting perspectives and insights that make this a worthwhile read for students of WWII. The narration is a bit dry but the personalities of the people interviewed comes out.

Wonderful and inspiring story with lessons for anyone
Revisado: 07-16-22
This was a wonderful story about a very inspiring American who worked her way up with hard work, thoughtful strategies and determination. These are lessons we can all learn from that apply towards our career and our personal life. Although Ray was not always successful she would learn from what happened and move forward in a productive direction even when the situation was very unfair.
The lessons in this book are approachable and one’s we can all draw from. This is better than a self help book because the situations are realistic and relatable.

Captivating story by a true American hero
Revisado: 01-14-22
This is a fascinating account of the Nautilus and her second Captain. What I appreciate about Captain William Anderson is his leadership, care for his team and patriotism. If you are interested in American military history, the Cold War, exploration and humble leadership than this book is for you.

Insights into the development and use of the rover
Revisado: 07-19-21
This book does a good job of telling the story behind the development of the lunar rover. It also provides interesting background on many of the key players. If you have worked on challenging projects or are an engineer you will enjoy learning about the technical and business conflicts and challenges the program faced. The lunar rover development is an impressive example of a project done under intense time pressure with significant technical challenges.
The narration was good, but did seem to put some unnecessary/overdone inflection at times.
I would have added a star to the Audible Story if it had included the diagrams and images as it does for many other books. This book screams for visuals. The author does an impressive job of describing technical features but nothing beats a picture or a drawing. You can go to Amazon and view many of the pictures on the preview. It provides a much richer appreciation, particularly for the imaginative concepts early designers came up with.

Few know how close the world has come to annihilation better than the warriors who served America during the tense, 45-year struggle known as the Cold War. Yet for decades, their work has remained shrouded in secrecy.

Fascinating story of covert submarine activities
Revisado: 05-29-21
A bit technical and a lot of use of jargon but still a fascinating walk through the evolution of submarine technology and its impact on the tactics and warfare. It certainly gives one an appreciation for the risk and commitment of submariners.

Historia
For almost four desperate years between 1939 and 1943, British and American navies fought a savage, losing battle against German submarine wolf packs. The Allies might never have turned the tide of that historic battle without an intelligence coup. The race to break the German U-boat codes is one of the last great untold stories of World War II.

Historia
In 2006, Ben S. Bernanke was appointed chair of the Federal Reserve, capping a meteoric trajectory from a rural South Carolina childhood to professorships at Stanford and Princeton, to public service in Washington's halls of power. There would be no time to celebrate, however - the burst of the housing bubble in 2007 set off a domino effect that would bring the global financial system to the brink of meltdown.

Interesting story and lecture on our economy and humbly acting courageously
Revisado: 12-13-20
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It gave me a perspective on what went on behind the scenes as the financial crisis played out. Bernanke did a good job of providing explanations of terms and concepts so the listener could follow the complexities of what was going on. Most importantly it was interesting to hear the disagreements and challenges that went on behind the scenes and yet the unpopular but necessary actions people were willing to take.

Reaching Your Dream Despite Personal Fears
Revisado: 02-18-20
Wonderful inside story of reaching for ones dream and overcoming ones fears along the way. Mike shares on a very personal level the fears and challenges he faced along the way of achieving his dream to become an astronaut. No magic here, just hard work, persistence and having people who cared enough to help him achieve his dream.
I feel the message here is that if you have a good heart, others will help you along the way.
Oh, it is also about becoming and being an astronaut with some interesting inside NASA stories along the way.

A Great Perspective About the Challenges of Leadership
Revisado: 08-29-16
There are no easy answers and oh by the way the answers change. But by being thoughtful, caring about the right things and balancing data with courage and gut feel, you can generally do a good job.
This is a great book to get a perspective on what a CEO or any leader who is genuinely trying to make a difference in a dynamic setting is up against. Along the way there are many thoughtful suggestions and antidotes that provide helpful insights for dealing with the challenges a leader faces.
Although I have never been a CEO, I have had the opportunity to work along side several and this book captured and explained many similar circumstances that I observed. A new leader will find wisdom, perspective and some comfort that they are not the only one who has faced incredible challenges.
