Story
Crucifixion, the Romans believed, was the worst fate imaginable, a punishment reserved for slaves. How astonishing it was, then, that people should have come to believe that one particular victim of crucifixion - an obscure provincial by the name of Jesus - was to be worshipped as a god. Dominion explores the implications of this shocking conviction as they have reverberated throughout history.

The first chapter pre Christ was a bit long. I do understand he had to set up the significance of the Greco Roman practice of crucifixion.

Story
"The central miracle asserted by Christians is the Incarnation. They say that God became Man. Every other miracle prepares the way for this, or results from this." This is the key statement of Miracles, in which C. S. Lewis shows that a Christian must not only accept but rejoice in miracles as a testimony of the unique personal involvement of God in his creation.

Story
The Bible is filled with examples of an intimate God, a God keenly interested in connecting with ordinary people. He promises to be with us. He says he will personally guide us. Yet somehow, intimacy with God eludes us. Caught up in the mainstream of life, we know we're missing something vital. But how do we attain it?

Have we been taught to discount the veracity and deeper meaning of our emotional resonance with the world around us? In The Abolition of Man, C.S. Lewis looks at the curriculum of the English "prep school" and begins to wonder if this subliminal teaching has indeed produced a generation who discount such a nature.

This in my opinion is one of his heavier works. Take note of his audiance, he is not writing to Christians but devout secularists, materialists and naturalists. As far as that goes the writing is typical Lewis. Logic on fire...

Story
Since the days of the early church, Christians have struggled to understand the relationship between two seemingly contradictory concepts in the Bible: law and gospel. If, as the Apostle Paul says, the law cannot save, what can it do? Is it merely an ancient relic from Old Testament Israel to be discarded? Or is it still valuable for Christians today?

heavy reading but an important topic with lifting
Reviewed: 11-13-20
Ferguson presents a highly compelling and rational discussion on what Tim Keller calls "the two thieves of the Gospel." Legalism and antinomianism both rob the Christian of the living benefits of the good news. This is not a new topic, it is as old as sin and we have struggled with it through human history. He is a scholar extraordinaire and does an excellent job explaining the reason for thentwo and how they rob us. the book begins very slowly but by halfway in I was hooked and could not wait to read more!
