Story
Elaine Quartermaine’s life was never much to talk about. Growing up in pre-Victorian London had made her a survivor if nothing else. Until she died! Or...thought she had died, and then she woke up somewhere else in someone else’s body.

Stories that decent from Mary Shelley's story are not hard all that hard to find. It's a testament to impact that Shelley's book has had on the world. "Blood and Moonlight" has done something interesting, it took the fictional characters and the real life tragedies of their creator and used them to create a facinating alternative history story.
I have many books read by Todd McLaren in my audible library and he's one of my favorites. He does a great job here but I sometimes with there had been a second female reader given the amount of female POV in the story.
None of the main Characters in the book are particularly likable people. This seems intentional for the story, but that may put some people off a bit. I personally like it since most people are not always the shining pillars of virtue that often are the protagonist of fantasy stories. This is a very gritty story that spends most of it's time in moral gray area's when it's not hanging out in the black.

Story
My name is Marten Mann. I work for the devil, or the prince of lies, as you people are so fond of calling him. Yes. You read that last line correctly. I am employed by the powers of evil as acquisitor ad infinitum. I did not seek out this job: I was chosen for the position. To put it in simpler terms, I am a broker of sorts - you know, the guy who finds out what it is that you want the most. I make it readily available to you for a price. I think we all know just how costly that one thing that you think you need so much can be.

Dark or Light? Depends on who's telling the tale.

What made the experience of listening to Mr. Mann the most enjoyable?
Mr. Mann's complex and interesting characters are definately a draw to this book. The main character is interesing enough but Abby is absolutely facinating.
What other book might you compare Mr. Mann to and why?
For books this most closely makes me think of "For Love of Evil" by Piers Anthony. But I think the film "The Prophecy" more closely matches the feel of this book.
What about Todd McLaren’s performance did you like?
I'm a big fan of Todd McLaren's audio book work. The first book I remember him reading was "Altered Carbon". I think he knocks it out of the ball park again. His portrail of Abby was spot on.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I listened to this one pretty quickly. It is decently long but it did really keep me listening.
Any additional comments?
I think the story was a lot of fun. Like one of the other reviews here I noticed what I thought was some holes in the concept. Like the need for the contracts. But I did give this a second listen and I picked up what was going on with the contracts.
If anything I would say my only complaint was that the ending wrapped it up kinda quick so it was easy to miss how some of the pieces came together. It was a good ending, only a little too quick.
