Story
Following the guidance of a mysterious blue prompt, Sylas journeys to the town of Ember Hollow to breathe new life into a quaint local pub. Along the way, he meets a clever apothecary named Mira, who helps him acclimate to the ins and outs of the realm, and Patches, a corpulent cat who’s slightly . . . shall we say, unusual. Dubbing the pub “The Old Lamplighter,” Sylas hopes it will be a safe haven for other weary souls. Of course, it doesn’t feel that safe when the prompt reappears with a warning: [You have 89 days until the invasion.]

Interesting concept. I like tales in the pub, so I hope we see more if that side of things than battles. Overall though, I can’t wait to read the next book.

Story
Sasha Pierce hasn’t had a single dream since she was a child...until she accepts a substitute teaching position in the charmingly witchy village of Old Middleton. Her first dream in twenty-five years ought to be enchanting, but her wonder quickly turns to shock when she realizes that it’s not a dream at all, but an entirely different sort of magic. Catapulted through an ancient portal into the fairytale kingdom of Between, Sasha’s astonishment is swiftly upgraded to panic when she accidentally performs a supposedly impossible feat and is declared the True Queen of Between.

I like the second half of the book and almost stopped reading after the first half. After finishing I question if the first half is even necessary. I do like where the storyline is going so I will try to read the next one.

Story was okay. Good pacing. I thought it was weird the writer was also the narrator here. Seemed a bit unnecessarily over dramatic at times. What I disliked the most, I hate the character trope of supposed to be smart but also lacks common sense.

Story
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

I was surprised that I liked this book as much as I did. I don’t know if I like where there storyline is going, but I liked the book overall. The book did not drag on and kept a good pace at forwarding the story.

The impact of sharing her voice—her truth—was undeniable, and it changed the course of her life and the lives of countless others. After the devastating events at Zodiac Academy, we have to deal with this darker world we're faced with. Lionel seeks to hurt us, the nymphs seek to hurt the entire fae race, and between all of it, we just have to try and survive each day as it comes. I'm afraid of everything falling apart, but it looks like it already has.

I skipped ahead about 75% of this book. It was insufferable how redundant and negative the series is at this point. I just wanted a series about the twins, I hate that there are 40 different story lines. Everything that I liked in the beginning is just missing now.

Story
Fate has torn us apart, and, sometimes, I believe the stars have given up on us altogether. Without my sister, the world seems darker than ever before, and the shadows loom thicker, rising up to answer the call of the Shadow Princess, and changing the face of Solaria for good. I’m afraid we’re almost out of time. Hope is a dangerous thing. It’s the key to us fighting on. But it could be what destroys us in the end. One thing is for certain, I won’t stop until I have been reunited with my other half, and together we will fight to take our crowns. A war is coming.

To preface, I am not a CH fan but a friend recommended this one and asked me to give her a shot again(rethinking friendship now). I almost dropped it after the first 4 minutes then went back and made myself listen to the whole thing(ugh).
First, the narrators are terrible and just don’t match up or have good pace. Second… It is just terribly written and predictable and just plain annoying. Each scene is drawn out and characters are brought in with no real substance or plot to them.
I think it could have been something better but they missed the mark by miles.

Interesting story line but it could have been so much more. I thought there was too much filler that made the story drag on and on and just not enough actual story line that made me want to listen. If not for a group of us all listening to the same book I probably would have never finished.
