Story
Kathleen Hanna’s band Bikini Kill embodied the punk scene of the 90s, and today her personal yet feminist lyrics on anthems like “Rebel Girl” and “Double Dare Ya” are more powerful than ever. But where did this transformative voice come from? In Rebel Girl, Hanna’s raw and insightful new memoir, she takes us from her tumultuous childhood to her formative college years and her first shows. As Hanna makes clear, being in a punk “girl band” in those years was not a simple or safe prospect.

F*king Rad!

I love her authenticity, humor, and cursing. Listening to her stories was a salve and as though I was talking with a good friend. I bought tickets to their upcoming show to take in ALL the fucking awesomeness in person!!!
I especially loved her reflections on her Riot Grrrl experience and her honesty when asked if it should be done again. She is refreshing and deserves ALL the beauty and love from the Universe.
Thank you for YOU, Kathleen Hanna! Keep crushing it!!!

Story
True crime, memoir, and ghost story, Mean is the bold and hilarious tale of Myriam Gurba’s coming-of-age as a queer, mixed-race Chicana. Blending radical formal fluidity and caustic humor, Gurba takes on sexual violence, small towns, and race, turning what might be tragic into piercing, revealing comedy. This is a confident, intoxicating, brassy book that takes the cost of sexual assault, racism, misogyny, and homophobia deadly seriously.

Her story deeply connected to my own. I recommend reading this book to feel a palette of emotions rarely found in a single piece of writing.
I'm in love with the vulnerability of it and am inspired to write again.
Thank you, Myrium for all you ate and all you are becoming. Enjoy these trips around the sun.
