Story
When Livy began his epic The History of Rome, he had no idea of the fame and fortune he would eventually attain. He would go on to become the most widely read writer in the Roman Empire and was eagerly sought out and feted like a modern celebrity. And his fame continued to grow after his death. His bombastic style, his intricate and complex sentence structure, and his flair for powerfully recreating the searing drama of historical incidents made him a favorite of teachers and pupils alike.

The introduction slams Livy's books
Reviewed: 07-03-20
I made the mistake of buying all six volumes. I started listening to the introduction and it completely slams Livy's books. It is so critical that I'm left wondering why they bothered creating all of these audiobooks. The description on Audible praises Livy, so I feel like this is false advertising. I am returning all of these volumes.

Story
Jame is a Kencyr. Kencyrs are not native to the planet where they now live. For 30 centuries they have been the weapon that their Three-Faced God has used against the power of the Perimal Darkling. Jame knows this as she stumbles out of the hilly, barren Haunted Lands into the city of Tai-tastigon. But she knows little else. She does not remember where she has been or what she has done for the last 10 years of her life. Her memory goes back only a week or two - to finding her home destroyed and all her family dead.

Vivid, impactful writing

P.C. Hodgell's writing seems original to me. The only writer I would compare her to is Tolkien. Not because I feel her writing is very much like Tolkien's, but she can create atmosphere and eerieness that reminds me of Tolkien. When I listen to her story, I can imagine her world vividly. She can really capture the mysterious.

Story
When a pseudonymous programmer introduced “a new electronic cash system that’s fully peer-to-peer, with no trusted third party” to a small Online mailing list in 2008, very few paid attention. Ten years later, and against all odds, this upstart autonomous decentralized software offers an unstoppable and globally-accessible hard money alternative to modern central banks. The Bitcoin Standard analyzes the historical context to the rise of Bitcoin, the economic properties that have allowed it to grow quickly, and its likely economic, political, and social implications.

I have complaints about this book
Reviewed: 05-26-20
I loved many parts of this book. I learned a lot about currency and I feel the information is valuable. I WHOLEHEARTEDLY disagree with what Ammous says about art! What garbage you spew! To say that all modern artists are lazy, talentless hacks is stated out of pure ignorance. You do not have a clue what you are talking about. Blanket statements in general should be avoided by people who don't want to come across as ignorant baboons. I can think of musicians and writers from my lifetime who could annihilate you in talent and originality. You make it sound like Bach is the only valuable composer. I'll bet during Bach's time there were morons like you dismissing him because he was too "modern!" Thank god sensible people don't listen to this rubbish! I am removing two stars from my review. I had originally given you five stars.
