Handbook on how to stay estranged

This book is awful and super out of touch. It literally shifts all the blame to the child, and it makes the parent the victim. Following the advice in this book is a sure fire way to stay estranged. The inability of this generation of parents to accurately self reflect and accept responsibility for their actions and then make real changes drips from every page. 0/10 stars

While the message is a good one - cut sugar - this book is nothing but a thinly veiled keto book. It pushes a diet full of animal fat as being healthy, which directly contradicts credible scientific research.

Still relevant to Christians today. This is a timeless book. Excellent narration too. Very well written and easy to grasp the concepts.

Book is a very good read and doesn’t waste time with all the fluff. I would have liked for the pdf to include a quick reference guide with name, dosing, usage, etc. It’s hard to keep it all straight when we are just listening, which means you’ll have to take notes to get the most out of this book.

Proud of Jody for sharing his story

I wish this book had been in my mother’s hands when I was a child, and I wish she had read it and actually listened to it. Jody is my cousin, but I did not know him growing up because my mother did not allow me to have a relationship with him because my mother was 100000% convinced that June was sleeping with Jeff (she was NOT) and that this was the reason Jody was abused. My mother would say that June sleeping with “that man” “just made him so sexually turned on that he couldn’t control himself.” Yes, those words are what I grew up hearing about Jody and his story. My mother explained away and reasoned out the repeated rape of a child by a grown man. Unsurprisingly, my mother’s total and complete lack of understanding of grooming and sexual abuse led to my own abuse at the hands of both my brother and my sister, and I believe it led to my brother's abuse by a family friend.

I told and was not believed. If the adults in my life had resources like this book, my outcome may have been different. This book goes through the signs to look for, concrete steps to take to prevent/stop abuse, and resources for victims and their families after being abused. I always ask myself where my life would be if my mother had listened, if she had not been in such denial of sexual abuse, if she had not been so judgmental about June and Jody, if she had been educated properly on the red flags and signs and symptoms. Where would my life be if the information in this book was widely available back in the 80’s and 90’s? Thank you, Jody, for being so vulnerable and willing to be open. I am so proud of you for sharing your story and for the advocacy that you have dedicated your life to.

I don’t ever trust a book that discusses fertility treatment yet leaves out NaPro. As a scientific method that has some of the highest success rates for infertility, I am always at a loss of why books continue to pretend it doesn’t exist. If we are talking about evidence based treatment, then the conversation is incomplete without NaPro. I also am suspicious of authors who read their own books yet mispronounce key medical terms.

I love how real the priest was with his own struggles. An excellent dive into Ignatian mysticism.
