Story
Inspired by her research for the hit podcast Ultra, Rachel Maddow charts the rise of a wild American strain of authoritarianism that has been alive on the far-right edge of our politics for the better part of a century. Before and even after our troops had begun fighting abroad in World War II, a clandestine network flooded the country with disinformation aimed at sapping the strength of the U.S. war effort and persuading Americans that our natural alliance was with the Axis, not against it.

No sound clips

As explained at the beginning, the economic issues in acquiring rights to play sound bites did detract from the overall enjoyment of this audiobook. But it is still worthwhile.

Great and inciteful

This series fills in a lot of behind the scenes events, and helps to explain the reasons for the events of these times
However, I really wished Professor Baum had used proper pin yin and pronunciation of his mandarin for the Chinese phrases. I couldn’t understand his Chinese elocution in many instances. It inhibited my appreciation and understanding, as the Chinese phrases reveal more underlying meaning than mere denotation of the words for a person conversant in Chinese
