The Shadow Man is the first standalone from the bestselling author of the Perfect series, Helen Fields.

Includes a short story, exclusive to the audiobook.

He collects his victims. But he doesn’t keep them safe.

Elspeth, Meggy and Xavier are locked in a flat. They don’t know where they are, and they don’t know why they’re there. They only know that the shadow man has taken them, and he won’t let them go.

Desperate to escape, the three of them must find a way out of their living hell, even if it means uncovering a very dark truth.

Because the shadow man isn’t a nightmare. He’s all too real.

And he’s watching.

Helen Fields is back with a heart-pounding new book, perfect for fans of Cara Hunter and Stuart MacBride.

I didn't have the same issue with the female narrator that others did.

Her voicing of the main female character was strong and distinct.

The story was well-crafted, and I thought it came together nicely. Some parts are a bit farfetched to me, but not overly so.

Solid story

Fantastic book from Helen Fields!

I gave the performance three stars, because there are two narrators. The male narrator, Robin Laing, is excellent. I wish he had read the entire book. The female narrator, Cathleen McCarron was irritating in the extreme. Her accents were poorly executed, especially the supposedly American accent. I also found her voice irritating, and her over-all performance sub-par. The book was greatly diminished for me. I repeatedly stopped the audio during the chapters read by McCarron because they were so irritating. The story is good enough, and Laing is very good, but I sincerely hope not to encounter narration by McCarron in any future audiobooks.

I will avoid narrator McCarron in future.

I was struck by the negative reviews here as the author is brilliant and one of my favorites. Audible gives 3.5 stars yet, Amazon has 3000 5 stars. As I listened, it was easy to see why. The story is great, typical of the author, and Robin Laing’s narration is superb too. The female narrator’s voice is awful. The main character has an awful, grating American accent and makes the character come across as arrogant and obnoxious. If you can get past it, the story is worth it, but for some listeners, you might want to read the book.

Excellent story, bad female narrator

I almost did not purchase this as previous reviews stated the narrator for the female was awful. She wasn’t the best narrator I’ve heard, but she definitely was not the worst and did not turn me away from listening to the book. Overall, I really enjoyed it.

Definitely worth the credit!
