Bram Stoker Award Winner for Superior Achievement in a Young Adult Novel

In Adam Cesare’s terrifying young adult debut, Quinn Maybrook finds herself caught in a battle between old and new, tradition and progress—that just may cost her life.

Quinn Maybrook and her father have moved to tiny, boring Kettle Springs, to find a fresh start. But what they don’t know is that ever since the Baypen Corn Syrup Factory shut down, Kettle Springs has cracked in half.

On one side are the adults, who are desperate to make Kettle Springs great again, and on the other are the kids, who want to have fun, make prank videos, and get out of Kettle Springs as quick as they can.

Kettle Springs is caught in a battle between old and new, tradition and progress. It’s a fight that looks like it will destroy the town. Until Frendo, the Baypen mascot, a creepy clown in a pork-pie hat, goes homicidal and decides that the only way for Kettle Springs to grow back is to cull the rotten crop of kids who live there now.

I thought the voice actress did very well. Easy to follow and I never once felt lost. The story I felt was slightly predictable, however it still made for a fun and horrific ride to the very end.

Pretty Decent YA Horror.

I probably would have enjoyed this book a lot more without the terrible performance of the reader. Extremely annoying voice. It was comical when it shouldn't have been. The very first sentence spoken alone made me mad I bought this book without sampling it

I thought I was going to live this because of the title.

The overall premise is a bit campy and over the top, but in an enjoyable way. The modern slang and woke politics read a bit too forced at times. Not a huge fan of the narrator’s voice when reading for deeper sounding characters or pained dialogue, but I still enjoyed the narration and the story as a whole. Perfect if you’re looking for a fun modern slasher to listen to in the background.

Fun modern slasher, despite a few annoyances

This was a fast, fun, slasher. Great 80s summer camp movie vibes with modern twists. I did NOT see the romantic twist and the end coming. Can't wait to read book 2!

Great slasher.
