A new provocative love story from the New York Times bestselling author of All the Ugly and Wonderful Things.

“The story of Zee and Gentry is the reason we read.” —Brunonia Barry

Their journey will break them—or save them.

A moving and complicated love story for our time, The Reckless Oath We Made redefines what it means to be heroic. Zee has never admitted to needing anybody. But she needs Gentry. Her tough exterior shelters a heart that’s loyal to the point of self-destruction, while autistic Gentry wears his heart on his sleeve, including his desire to protect Zee at all costs. When an abduction tears Zee’s family apart, she turns to Gentry—and sets in motion a journey and a love that will change their lives forever.

“[A] mind-blowing book that has left me scrambling to pick up the pieces of my brain and my shattered heart . . . Prepare to have your mind and heart expanded to their limits.” The Oklahoman

Just like everyone else, When I saw a new release by Bryn Greenwood, I had to buy it. I didn't read the synopsis or anything. I love going in completely blind because that means I have no expectation when I'm listening. That being said, when Gentry was introduced and was speaking Middle English I was a little confused. Once we got a little background on him, I knew I was going to love him. He is such a fun character with the way he speaks and acts but mostly I loved that he lived a semi normal life and made friends that didn't really care about the Autism. The relationship that Zee and Gentry develop was sweet and sort of innocent in a way, like she like who he was and he was the same. Their differences didn't matter. This entire book was so different from everything else which I think it this authors trademark. I'm sad it's over but glad it has a happy ending.

The narration was great. I loved the full cast. Kirby Heyborne was perfect for Gentry. And this was the first time I've listened to Alex McKenna but it won't be the last. She has a great gravely voice.

When I read 'All the Ugly and Wonderful Things' by Bryn Greenwood, I was shocked at the subject of the book. I was disgusted with myself for loving it, and wanting things to work out for the unlikely couple. Those who've read it will understand where I am coming from.

Bryn Greenwood is a literary genius. I am still shocked at how this book wrapped me in a bow around it from the first sentence to the last. I couldn't stop listening.

Again, very unlikely characters become beloved by the reader. A young autistic man who speaks in old English, and a tough young woman who's had to deal with more loss, heartache, and ugly family business than most of us get in a lifetime strike up a very unlikely friendship and the results make for an unpredictable, amazing, jaw dropping story about humanity and love, and the fact that it exists in places one would never look.

This book is another phenomenal literary accomplishment from Ms Greenwood and I cannot wait to read her next. A book like this comes along once a year, and I was just to have the pleasure of reading it.

Brava!!

I LOVED “All the Ugly and Wonderful Things” this story is okay...but doesn’t compare to how great the other book is. It is a sweet love story with captivating moments.

I love Bryn Greenwood! What a refreshing look at the human struggle. The characters in this novel are fresh and unique. It is as if she has tapped into real life, a life that is different than most fiction writers. I am anxiously looking for more from this author.
