#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Long before the First Order, before the Empire, before even The Phantom Menace . . . Jedi lit the way for the galaxy in The High Republic

It is a golden age. Intrepid hyperspace scouts expand the reach of the Republic to the furthest stars, worlds flourish under the benevolent leadership of the Senate, and peace reigns, enforced by the wisdom and strength of the renowned order of Force users known as the Jedi. With the Jedi at the height of their power, the free citizens of the galaxy are confident in their ability to weather any storm But the even brightest light can cast a shadow, and some storms defy any preparation.

When a shocking catastrophe in hyperspace tears a ship to pieces, the flurry of shrapnel emerging from the disaster threatens an entire system. No sooner does the call for help go out than the Jedi race to the scene. The scope of the emergence, however, is enough to push even Jedi to their limit. As the sky breaks open and destruction rains down upon the peaceful alliance they helped to build, the Jedi must trust in the Force to see them through a day in which a single mistake could cost billions of lives.

Even as the Jedi battle valiantly against calamity, something truly deadly grows beyond the boundary of the Republic. The hyperspace disaster is far more sinister than the Jedi could ever suspect. A threat hides in the darkness, far from the light of the age, and harbors a secret that could strike fear into even a Jedi’s heart.

Look when I was reading the reviews I was pretty skeptical. I personally have over 30 SW audio books and I can tell you this is NOT the worst by far. There's some jumping around others were complaining about, but the story needed that. This is an introduction to a completely new world of Jedi, Villains, and The Republic. Honestly this book gets about a 7.5 for me. Not as much lightsaber Action, but a lot of thriller moments from non force users. I enjoyed the characters and the plot. I can't wait for the story to be continued!!! May the Force be With You!

It's been too long Marc Thompson...

Still working through my total feelings on the book, but I really enjoyed the various light side characters throughout. As opposed to other Star Wars books I’ve read, it was a little weird not having a purely dark side of force related foe, but it worked. The ending and direction for the High Republic Era is fantastic, as are many of the arcs for the characters. Lastly for the good, the narration was phenomenal, far and away the most and best variation I’ve seen.

The sheer number of different characters does make the story just hard to follow and keep track of who is where and what’s happening. It’s very easy to get various Jedi or pilots mixed up, especially listening audibly versus physically reading.

It wasn’t my favorite Star Wars book, but it definitely had its moments. I’m excited for what comes next, but still have some hesitations about my love for this book.

Successful Introduction to New Era

I'm one of the many Star Wars fans who were disappointed that Knights of the Old Republic or the Old Republic wasn't being revisited. Probably the most exciting eras with thousands of Jedi and the Republic fighting the Sith Empire. Instead, we get the High Republic 200 years before (still with council members that were in the Phantom Menace) and the Nihil. Space vikings who are not as interesting as the publishers hoped they would be. Overly long, far too many characters and a lack of really interesting people just bored me. Marc Thompson was superb on the audiobook as usual. It took me ages to finish this book. I kept hoping Revan would show up and kick Ro's ass, then just slogged on until the end. Not interested in the comics and I'm not sure if I will read another High Republic book. At least we have a new Thrawh book coming in April, the highlight of the year. We have far better characters and situations in Legends. I just finished the Jedi Healer MedStar duo before this and they were so much better (MASH Star Wars style). Just left a bad taste in my mouth.

Era Isn't Really Interesting-Superb Narration

I struggled to gain attachment to any of the characters aside from Marchion, and that's mainly morbid curiosity. Also the sound effects were completely unnecessary.

I'm a Star Wars fan, and this was eh
