Have you ever walked into a room and couldn't remember what you went there for? Have you ever grasped the hand of a potential client and then when the handshake broke, the name seemed to disappear from your memory? Or have you ever left a prospect or an important meeting and as you drove away remembered a key point that you should have shared with them? The problem is NOT with your memory. The problem is with the "Filing System" your brain currently uses to store and retrieve memory items.

When Sasha receives a call from her old university friend Gabby inviting her to spend Christmas at Gabby’s remote Scottish lake house, Sasha knows she shouldn’t go. Twelve years ago, on Christmas Eve, when Sasha and her five closest friends were celebrating the festive season, something truly horrific happened that would change the course of their friendship forever. Something that meant Sasha hasn’t spoken to any of them since that night.

Story
It’s a beautiful day in Newport, Rhode Island, when Phoebe Stone arrives at the grand Cornwall Inn wearing a green dress and gold heels, not a bag in sight, alone. She's immediately mistaken by everyone in the lobby for one of the wedding people, but she’s actually the only guest at the Cornwall who isn’t here for the big event. Phoebe is here because she’s dreamed of coming for years—she hoped to shuck oysters and take sunset sails with her husband, only now she’s here without him, at rock bottom, and determined to have one last decadent splurge on herself.

Living in a year around Christmas town has its drawbacks. The caroling, the decorations, the insanely cheery spirit, it never disappears. It's why I like to hibernate away in my cave - I mean housekeeping a healthy distance from the holly jolly spirits. And all was going according to plan until my nemesis, Storee Taylor, moved in next door to care for her Aunt Cindy. Without blinking, she turned my simple world into a real nightmare-before-Christmas, especially when she decided to enter the town Christmas Kringle contest - which she was determined to win.

Story
Two little girls stand with their heads bowed in my living room. I’m told they’re my granddaughters. Daisy is nine, and Alice seven. Daisy is the spitting image of her mother. This is the first time I’ve met them since my daughter and I fell out after she married that waste of space, Vince. They’ve come to live with me because their mother — my daughter — was murdered. In her own home while they slept close by. I think Vince killed her. But the police can’t prove it. I’ve always known he was no good. He treated my daughter like dirt. I said he’d cheat on her — but she wouldn’t listen.

Audiences will learn when and how to “judge a book by its cover,” and also how to X-ray it, read critically, and extract the author’s message from the text.

Some great tips
Some great tips. Discipline Your Eyes was definitely my favorite, as I'm not much of a speed reader. I still think that techniques and non-sub vocalization mentioned here are hokum, as my mind doesn't work cogently without words. Other than that though, my reading speed went from around 235 words per minute to around 600, and my comprehension by focusing on grouping has gone way up as well.

motivating to listen...
Since I listen while I am driving I like the fact that it has a "bell" or some sort of "ping" when the narrator is about to say key words and phrases or make a point. it helps not to doze off and day dream while the audio is on. Plus it is made to be listened and is acknowledging it throughout-- thus emphasizing where you can refer back on the book (what pages) if you want to go through the exercises further. I had purchased another book of the same topic at the same time and i like this one better.

Great Value
Any additional comments?
This is not just an audible book, it is a program. There are supplemental exercises you can find in her book to help boost your results but there are also free resources she points readers to for them to practice and better understand the material taught. I just got finished taking a speed reading course through my university and thought I would listen to this audiobook to reinforce what I had learned. I found this program to be just as complete as the speed reading course I took via my university and even more so. I would highly recommend this program to anyone who is interested in speed reading or learning to read more efficiently. But, the key is to make sure you participate and apply the material, even if it is just using the free resources she provides and your own reading material. You must apply her teachings to get the most out of the program.
