Publisher's summary

The first original novel tying into the critically acclaimed and much-missed Firefly series from creator Joss Whedon

The Battle of Serenity Valley was the turning point that led the Independents to their defeat at the hands of the Alliance. Yet the Browncoats had held the valley for weeks against all odds, before being ordered to lay down their arms. Command stated they refused to send in airpower because the ground war was "too hot". But the soldiers who were there insist that was not true....

While picking up a new cargo on Persephone, Captain Malcolm Reynolds is kidnapped by a bunch of embittered veteran Browncoats who suspect him of sabotaging the Independents during the war. As the rest of the crew struggle to locate him, Mal is placed on trial for his life, fighting compelling evidence that someone did indeed betray them to the Alliance all those years ago. As old comrades and old rivals crawl out of the woodwork, Mal must prove his innocence, but his captors are desperate and destitute, and will settle for nothing less than the culprit’s blood.

If you want more Firefly then get this book

This book IS Firefly, it just is. Not only is it canon to the world of Firefly, but the story, tone, characterization, and everything else are done in such a way that it could have been written by Joss himself.

MORE

I got the audible. I think this guy captured every character perfectly. It was like watch an episode of firefly and I couldn't ask for more. I see this is only a 4 book series. I wish for this to keep coming with more episodes coming out of books only read by this guy

Back in the verse!

Seeing that Firefly was cut woefully short, books and comics are a great way to continue the story. Glad I decided on the audiobook because the narrator did a great job, and played all the characters very well. The story was also solid, and it fits in with the lore nicely. Highly recommended!

Big Damn Hero

I had very high expectations for this book..and they were exceeded. This is very much like Season 2 Episode 1 of Firefly. Enough said.

You Can't Take the Sky from Me

There were so many things I loved about this audio book as a long time fan of the show. We got to learn more about Mal and the Shephard's pasts; being with the crew again on another adventure; seeing things from Zoe's point of view was such a delight- watching her be the BAMF we know she is was really the highlight of the book.

The narrator did a great job with the characters, especially accounting for the fact that I know I personally kept expecting to hear Nathan Fillion or Summer Glau's voice when each of the characters spoke.

What I was a bit disappointed in was the writing. There were moments when I was completely jerked out of the story because something a character did, said, or thought was so startlingly out of character. There were also moments that were just honestly ~lame~ plot wise and didn't really seem to have their consequences thought through all the way.

Overall, despite a few sour notes, I will definitely be giving this book multiple re-listens and venturing on to see what else this series has to offer. Aim to misbehave!

Shiny fun

Loved it. It’s great to be back in the ‘verse and ride along with Serenity’s crew again. Thought the narrator’s impersonation of Mal Reynolds was spot-on; got it perfect right down to the cadence. Highly recommend.

Huge fan

I was/am a huge fan of the franchise so maybe a little biased. That said if you are or aren’t familiar with it this is great. The continuity from there series is flawless without excluding anyone who hasn’t seen it.

Feels just like the show and James Anderson Foster

Feels just like the show and James Anderson Foster as the narrator is amazing. He is what sale the story and the characters. For a series that continues a long gone series. It makes it feel like it isn't gone.
